Our patients are typically post-op for procedures such as craniotomies, spinal surgeries, and tumor de-bulking’s. We also receive overflow medical patients from other ICUs and the Emergency Department. Nurses in the NSICU are part of the Rapid Response Team and the Nurse Driven Stroke Assessment Team at UPMC Shadyside. Among patient care, nurses will have the opportunity to participate in hospital-based councils and committees, as well as continued unit development and quality projects. We strongly encourage our nursing staff to continue their education through academia, services, and conferences.
