Production Manager – Lean Manufacturing Transformation

Description
Chris Preble is working with a Syracuse manufacturing client of his that is seeking a proven leader to drive operational excellence and spearhead a lean transformation across its production operations. This role will combine hands-on management with strategic leadership, overseeing day-to-day production while embedding a continuous improvement culture throughout the organization.
Key Responsibilities
+ Lead all aspects of production operations, ensuring safety, quality, delivery, and cost targets are consistently met.
+ Drive lean manufacturing initiatives, including value stream mapping, 5S, Kaizen, SMED, and visual management, to optimize efficiency and reduce waste.
+ Partner with leadership to design and execute a multi-year lean transformation roadmap.
+ Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) for production, track results, and implement corrective actions where needed.
+ Champion a culture of continuous improvement, engaging and training staff at all levels in lean principles and problem-solving methods.
+ Ensure compliance with regulatory, environmental, and safety standards.
+ Collaborate with engineering, supply chain, and quality teams to improve workflows and implement best practices.
+ Provide coaching, mentoring, and leadership to supervisors and production staff to build high-performing teams.
+ Identify opportunities for technology adoption and process automation to support long-term scalability.
Requirements
Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations Management, or related field; advanced degree or certifications (Lean, Six Sigma Black Belt/Green Belt) strongly preferred.
+ 7+ years of progressive experience in manufacturing leadership, with a proven track record in lean transformations.
+ Deep understanding of lean manufacturing principles, tools, and methodologies.
+ Hands-on leader with the ability to roll up sleeves and work directly on the shop floor.
+ Strong project management and change management skills.
+ Excellent communication, leadership, and team-building abilities.
