Production Engineering Technician - Seneca Battery 1st Shift (6am - 2:30pm)
The Production Engineering Technician will play a critical role in supporting the manufacturing operations of Seneca Battery. This includes troubleshooting process problems issues, validating equipment, ensuring process consistency, and collaborating with engineers to maintain optimal performance and quality standards.

Standard Duties:

Monitors process equipment to identify potential errors and develops solutions to eliminate the reoccurrence of those problemInterfaces with Manufacturing & Quality Engineers and Maintenance in the development of new and modified equipment and process; improving production costs, yields, quality, and safety.Support new product launch team which is responsible for designing manufacturing plans including operator work content, machine capability, quality checks, and information flow.Provides clear communication with any external suppliers and customers.Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to equipment during production. Designs and conducts plant trials to determine performance capabilities.Assist in the validation of new equipment (etc. wire bonders).Perform shear and pull tests to validate wire bonders. Perform bond head exchanges and validate wire bonder performance post-maintenance or upgrades.Support with equipment installation, runoff, and ensure accuracy during product changeovers.Maintain detailed documentation of validations, issues, and resolutions.Monitor and report on equipment performance and process stability.Support continuous improvement initiatives and participate in root cause analysis (e.g., 8D, 5 Whys).Ensure compliance with safety standards and operational procedures.Provide support across shifts and during weekends as needed.

Requires pushing or pulling or manual equipment.Moderate lifting up to 50lbs.Team lifts are required for product weighing more than 50lbs.All employees are responsible for knowing, understanding, and complying with BorgWarner safety policies and procedures.Repetitive use of hands and wrist.This position requires a moderate to high degree of standing, walking, stooping, or kneeling, close eye work, reaching, pulling, or pushing.Requires wearing electrical personal protective equipment.Arc flash training requiredHigh voltage rework is required of battery systemsAble to crouch, bend, kneel, lift, carry and reach as needed in large and tight spaces.Good eye/hand coordination and ability to identify color and depth variations and small details visually.May require up to 15% training related travel.

Education & Experience


Education: 

Associate’s degree in engineering or technical degree preferred; or minimum five years related experience and/or training within the automotive industry; or equivalent combination of education and experience.Has held a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a technical role.Experience with Wire Bonding and/HV Operations required.Electrical Industrial Engineering / Mechatronics degree or certification is a plus.

Experience/ Skills:

Experience with Hesse automated bonding system.Knowledge of SPC, FMEA, and other quality tools.Proficiency in Microsoft Office and manufacturing software systems.Knowledge of XYZtec shear/pull testers.Complete internal certification in bonding operationComplete internal certification in high voltage operationExperience working in high voltage areas.Experience with simple hand tools with/without power or special assembly tools.Experience with troubleshooting machines/equipment.Experience of using electrical test equipment such as voltmeter, resistance testersAbility to read, analyze, and interpret periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.Ability to write reports, correspondences, and procedure manuals.Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups.Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables.Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.Proficiency in Microsoft Office and manufacturing software systems.
