Job Summary
The Inclusive Storytelling Hub, a new initiative at the College of Arts, Sciences, and Letters, seeks a creative, self-motivated video production and research assistant for the 2025 academic year. Priority will be given to majors in the Journalism and Media Production program, but all students are welcome to apply. This position may be combined with course credit through the History and Humanities internship program. The pay rate is $18 per hour.
Required Qualifications*Experience in media production courses or in the field of audio/video productionKnowledge of video and audio production workflowsFamiliarity with social media platforms and video content trendsStrong verbal and written communication skills and attention to detailStrong organizational skillsSelf-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervisionCurrently enrolled as an undergraduate student at UM-DearbornDesired Qualifications*Proficiency with Adobe Premiere Pro or other video editing softwareProficiency with Zoom audio recordersProficiency with DSLR or mirrorless camera operationAbility to stay with the position for the full academic yearHow You'll GrowThe ISH will partner with other organizations on campus to record, edit, and distribute videos of oral histories of the experiences of Middle Eastern residents in the Dearborn area, creating empathy through audiovisual storytelling. The production assistant will be involved in all aspects of production, including camera operation, audio recording, editing, and research into archival media such as historical newspapers or films. Additionally, creative editorial assignments will arise including promotional videos, event recap videos, and documentary style work. The ideal candidate will have experience with video production from start to finish, strong communication skills, a positive attitude and experience using Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro or DaVinci Resolve. For the right candidate, additional training will be provided. The production assistant will work directly with a supervisor on various videos and projects throughout the semester/academic year including (but not limited to) interviews, b-roll footage, stock/archival searches and organizing, footage transfer and/or tape digitizing, and project template building.
