Book Production Assistant, Crown, Clarkson Potter & Ten Speed Press (Hybrid)
Corporate Bookmaking at Penguin Random House seeks a Book Production Assistant specializing in the production of titles at Crown, Potter, and Ten Speed Press. Book Production is responsible for producing trade paperback, and hardcover books for a diverse set of imprints. This role involves tracking book materials among in-house departments and vendors, maintaining schedules, generating cost estimates, archiving digital assets, and purchasing promotional materials.

Clarkson Potter and Ten Speed Press publish today’s most influential and innovative voices in the cooking, drinks, pop culture, and lifestyle categories, and are the home of such celebrated voices as Ina Garten, Martha Stewart, Dolly Parton, and Matty Matheson.
The production bookmaking team produces trade paperback, hardcover books, and gift products, including children’s books, and graphic novels.
Our ideal candidate is highly motivated and enthusiastic about book publishing. We are looking for a detail-oriented, meticulous self-starter who loves books of all types and is invested in the process of bringing them to a wide readership, has strong writing and analytical skills, communicates clearly, is comfortable asking for help when needed and wants to be an active participant on a collaborative team.
This NYC-based role is a hybrid position with in-office responsibilities of a minimum of two days a week, which will include but not be limited to maintaining our physical production book library and preparing mailings. We will consider candidates who can work from a commutable distance to our offices at 1745 Broadway, which includes the tri-state area (NJ, CT, & PA).
The Role:
Provide general administrative support to the Production team, including scheduling meetings, archiving final book files, and managing distribution lists
Prepare various department reports
Maintain department library
Organize and track production of printed and digital galleys (preliminary copies of books for sales and marketing purposes)
With training, will learn how to produce 1-color and illustrated books and gift products
With training, will learn how to handle all aspects of book making production, such as estimating, scheduling, purchasing, and quality control

Ability to manage multiple projects and schedule tasks effectively

Ability to work and learn independently as well as part of a team
Capacity for anticipating problems and proposing solutions
Strong written and verbal communication skills
The ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with outside vendors and teams in other departments such as Editorial, Design and Operations
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
Familiarity in Adobe Creative Suite (specifically Acrobat Pro, InDesign, Photoshop), a plus
Basic math skills
Experience in book production and/or SAP is a plus but not required to succeed in this role—we value an organized and passionate team player with a strong interest in printed books
The salary or salary range for this position is $51,000. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.
