Product Test Engineer Co-Op

POSITION SUMMARY:

Students selected for the Product Test Engineer Co-Op will work closely with the New Product Development (NPD) and Engineering teams to evaluate product performance, reliability, and safety. This role provides hands-on experience conducting testing, collecting and analyzing data, and supporting product improvement initiatives for marine vessels and components.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Develops and executes test plans to validate product performance, durability, and compliance with regulatory standards.Prepares and sets up instrumentation, fixtures, and test rigs for product evaluations.Collects, analyzes, and reports test data to support engineering recommendations.Collaborates with Product Engineers, Design Engineers, and Technicians to identify and resolve product issues.Supports prototype builds and assists in the documentation of results for continuous product improvement.Ensures adherence to ASTM, ISO, ABYC, and internal testing standards.ALL OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Degree Required:    Choose an item.  Working toward a four-year degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Marine Engineering, or related field from an ABET-accredited institution.Preferred Degree:  Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Marine, or Test Engineering. (if applicable)Years of experience:  Junior or Senior year of college preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY:

Knowledge of testing methodologies, data acquisition systems, and instrumentation.Ability to analyze data and present findings in clear, concise reports.Familiarity with material properties, structural testing, and mechanical systems.Strong teamwork and communication skills.Hands-on experience with common shop tools and test equipment.Independent problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

Some travel required to manufacturing plants, supplier sites, and on-water test locations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Regularly walks, sits, stands and does computer work.

Occasionally lifts up to 50 lb.

INDEPENDENT JUDGEMENT:

Performs tasks and duties under general supervision, using established procedures and innovation. Chooses from limited alternatives to resolve problems. Occasional independent judgment is required to complete work assignments. Often makes recommendations to work procedures, policies, and practices.
