Your ‘day to day’
As a Product Safety Assessment Scientist, you will be responsible for gathering, evaluating, and summarizing toxicological studies and information to assess the risks associated with ingredients, materials, prototypes, and final products. Your role involves conducting hazard identification by sourcing relevant toxicological data from public and commercial databases, summarizing this information, and entering it into an internal database used by the PMI Smoke Free Products (SFP) Product Safety team for risk assessments. Additionally, you will perform toxicological risk assessments on materials and ingredients, maintaining a thorough understanding of toxicological principles, risk assessment methodologies, and advancements in the field (e.g., in silico tools). You will ensure adherence to Regulatory Excellence throughout your work.
More specifically, you'll
Conduct and organize toxicological data searches from various sources, ensuring accuracy and regular updates per Quality Management System (QMS)/internal guidelines.Perform toxicological risk assessments of ingredients and materials, collaborating on strategies for data-poor chemicals.Develop and summarize toxicological information for market notifications/submissions, ensuring quality and timely delivery with the Regulatory Compliance Team.Stay updated on regulatory changes and align practices with the Regulatory Affairs & Standards Management Team.Promote process improvements and ensure adherence to quality standards and regulatory excellence.
Who we’re looking for
Master's degree or PhD in toxicology or a related field. DABT or ERT certification is a plus.Minimum 1 year of experience in toxicology or related field. Experience with risk assessment is highly desirable.Familiarity with regulatory testing requirements for chemicals, materials, and/or tobacco products or pharmaceuticals. Proficiency in novel alternative methodologies, including alternative in vitro models (3R), adverse outcome pathways, in silico toxicology (QSAR), and integrated testing strategies.Proactive, collaborative team player who enjoys working with others.Fluency in both written and spoken English is a must.
