Job Title: Product Owner Lead – AI products
Location: Reston, VA
Type: 12 + months Contract – good chance of extensions and/or Contract to Hire
Contractor Work Model: Hybrid (onsite 1X every 10 weeks in DMV area)
PURPOSE:
The Product Owner Lead will guide a cross-functional team in the development and delivery of AI-powered products, with a particular focus on generative AI and chatbot solutions. This strategic, hands-on role requires someone who can identify AI use cases, collaborate with business and technical teams, and lead backlog and product roadmap execution. The ideal candidate has experience with generative AI concepts, AWS AI services, and product performance monitoring.
QUALIFICATIONS 8–11 years of progressive experience in product ownership, business analysis, or technical solution delivery 2+ years of experience delivering Generative AI (Gen AI) or LLM-based products, including: Identifying and defining AI use cases Collaborating with ML engineers and training data Exposure to prompt engineering or tuning models for performance Practical knowledge of AWS AI/ML services including Bedrock, Kendra, and SageMaker Proven success leading AI-driven products—ideally including chatbots or similar AI-driven user interface. Skilled in agile delivery and backlog management - writing EPICs and user stories, leading backlog grooming and sprint planning, managing product roadmaps in tools like Jira Strong collaboration across cross-functional teams—business, technical, architecture, and data science Experience monitoring product KPIs, usage data, user feedback, and performance to drive iterative improvements Excellent facilitation and communication skills, including leading stakeholder sessions and training PREFERRED: Experience in healthcare, federal programs, or payer/provider operations Familiarity with HIPAA, compliance, and secure use of AI in regulated environments Agile certifications such as CSPO, SAFe PO/PM, or PMI-ACP

In lieu of a Bachelor's degree, an additional 4 years of relevant work experience is required in addition to the required work experience.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 20% Leads the development of the product portfolio and provides workable solutions to satisfy customer and market expectations in close collaboration with stakeholders, Product Owners, and scrum teams. 15% Collaborates with management to identify and plan product releases by reviewing milestones with stakeholders; manages the continual development of existing products. 15% Validates proposed solutions by performing market research to gain insights and inform; assists with pricing packages and structures. 10% Communicates internally and externally, develops and maintains Product Roadmap(s). 10% Manages Product Backlog(s) for the development teams by using product road mapping and backlog management tools. 10% Works closely with testing managers to ensure product functionality is properly tested against business requirements; leads change control processes to reflect project priorities. 5% Aides in the development process by attending product refinement, sprint planning, and sprint reviews. 5% Coordinates and organizes workshops with product users using the discover and define approach; validates hypotheses and implements best solutions. 5% Contributes to wider initiatives and activities that support and increase customer satisfaction. 5% Conducts product training to partners, staff, and identifies need for individual/team training opportunities.
