Brief Description:
UBC is seeking a visionary and results-oriented Product Owner, AI Solutions to lead the integration of artificial intelligence technologies across all UBC service lines, including Patient Access, Safety & Risk Management, and Evidence Development. This role is central to shaping how AI can enhance clinical insights, operational efficiencies, and patient outcomes. The Product Owner will serve as the key interface between cross-functional business teams, technical development teams, and external partners, ensuring that AI-driven solutions deliver high value, support strategic goals, and align with UBC’s mission of improving patient care through data and innovation.
Specific job duties:
Define and evangelize a product vision and roadmap for AI solutions across UBC’s service offerings.Identify high-impact opportunities for AI in areas such as predictive analytics, natural language processing, real-world evidence generation, pharmacovigilance automation, patient engagement, and operational optimization.Own and manage a centralized AI solution backlog, prioritizing features based on business value, technical feasibility, and regulatory considerations.Collaborate with business leaders and other Product Owners from Patient Access, Safety & Risk Management, Evidence Development, and other departments to gather requirements and co-develop AI use cases.Translate strategic AI goals into detailed user stories, use cases, and acceptance criteria for Agile development teams.Partner with data science, engineering, and platform teams to ensure effective model deployment, monitoring, and iteration.Drive ethical and responsible AI practices, ensuring alignment with regulatory, compliance, and privacy requirements (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR).Monitor trends and advancements in AI, healthcare technology, and digital health to maintain a forward-looking strategy.Collaborate with external vendors and academic or industry partners to integrate best-in-class AI tools and platforms.Support client pitches, innovation initiatives, and cross-functional workshops that advance UBC’s AI capabilities and strategic partnerships.

Desired Skills and Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, life sciences, business, or a related field (Master’s or technical specialization in AI/ML preferred).5+ years of experience in a Product Owner or Product Manager role, with at least 2+ years working with AI/ML-driven products or platforms.Strong understanding of AI methodologies (e.g., machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision) and their application in healthcare or life sciences.Experience delivering digital or data-centric products in regulated environments (e.g., pharmaceutical, clinical trials, or healthcare technology).Proficient in Agile development practices with a track record of launching scalable AI solutions.Experience with backlog management and user story writing.Excellent skills in translating complex business needs into clear product requirements and user stories.Familiarity with cloud data platforms, model lifecycle management, and AI governance frameworks.Ability to make difficult product decisions and prioritize features based on business value.Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to explain AI concepts to non-technical audiences.Customer-focused, innovative, and highly collaborative.Passionate about delivering high-quality software productsCustomer-focused mindsetCollaborative team playerResilient under pressure and adaptable to changing priorities and requirementsExcellent time management and organizational skillsAt UBC, employee growth and well-being are always at the forefront.
