Job Description

The Product Manager – Retail (Physical Products | Manufacturing Focus) is the champion for assigned product categories and plays a critical role in managing a tangible product portfolio from concept through manufacturing and commercialization. Success in this role requires the ability to analyze data, draw actionable conclusions, develop business strategies, and collaborate cross-functionally—especially with manufacturing, engineering, sourcing, marketing, sales and supply chain teams.

This role covers all aspects of product line management for physical goods, including new product development (NPD), competitive intelligence, pricing and profitability, and full product life cycle management. You will partner closely with the Senior Product Manager to work with with internal manufacturing teams to bring high-quality, manufacturable, and cost-effective products to market. Additionally, this individual will be a strategic partner to Sales in achieving growth objectives, sales targets, and long-range initiatives.

The Product Manager identifies product opportunities across North America and globally as needed—leveraging market insights, customer feedback, and operational capabilities to develop successful product and business plans. You will also collaborate with Brand and Channel Marketing Teams to create marketing programs, promotions, and content that support commercialization efforts and customer engagement.

This role is ideal for someone who is self-motivated, detail-oriented, and thrives in a cross-functional and matrixed environment. You must be able to influence and communicate effectively with stakeholders across all levels.

This role will be hybrid-based out of one of our corporate locations in Deerfield, IL.

Responsibilities

Support the development of strategic product plans by aligning pricing, distribution, and promotional strategies with long-term business goals to drive revenue, profit, and market share growth while reinforcing market leadership.Collaborate with manufacturing, engineering, and sourcing teams to identify, define, and justify new product development opportunities.Drive cross-functional product development efforts through a structured stage-gate process to ensure products are manufacturable, meet quality standards, and align with business goals.Partner with Brand Marketing to plan, develop, and execute effective commercialization strategies for new product launches.Oversee the full product lifecycle—from concept through launch to discontinuation and final inventory management—for assigned product lines.Support product pricing strategies and manage profitability to meet product line and category-level P&L objectives.Leverage voice-of-customer insights, market research, and stakeholder input to define new products and support strategic decisions.Gather and analyze competitive and market intelligence—including features, pricing, and market share—to inform strategies that maintain or grow market leadership.Work with Brand and Channel Marketing to develop sales tools and promotional materials including packaging, advertising, trade show assets, social media content, and point-of-purchase displays.Maintain strong communication with Sales Management to ensure alignment on priorities, timing, and customer expectations.Approach business challenges with a fact-based mindset, using data to develop solutions aligned with brand strategy, customer needs, and company objectives.Deliver training to internal teams and external partners on product features, market trends, and category developments.Respond to daily inquiries from customers and sales teams related to product quality, availability, cost, and performance.Contribute to additional product management initiatives and projects as needed.

QualificationsBachelor’s degree required.Requires a minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in category, product or marketing management, preferably in a manufacturing setting.Able to work independently and manage multiple initiatives and projects.Experience in multi-channel environment (commercial and retail distribution) preferred.Experience with end user VOC & market researchExperience identifying, defining, developing, launching new products through a phase gate process.Experience working with and leading cross-functional teams in a matrix organization.Strong communication and presentation skills, both written and oral.Strong analytical skills – able to analyze and synthesize large amounts of data into simple, fact-based recommendations and plans.Ability to interpret and leverage insights from category financial performance reports.Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, presentation and MS Office suite skills.Working Conditions Occasional travel required (up to 25%).

Additional Information

Fortune Brands believes in fair and equitable pay. A reasonable estimate of the base salary range for this role is Hiring Pay Range: $90,000 USD - $143,000 USD. Please note that actual salaries may vary within the range, or be above or below the range, based on factors including, but not limited to, education, training, experience, professional achievement, business need, and location. In addition to base salary, employees will participate in either an annual bonus plan based on company and individual performance, or a role-based sales incentive plan.
