A Product Engineer is a professional responsible for designing, developing, and improving products. This is a technical role where the individual is responsible for project outcomes and on-time delivery of product development in the tool industry. This role involves problem solving and reviewing related information to evaluate and develop options for product design, sustaining activity, and project management and implement solutions with frequent direction.
1. Determine and execute appropriate theoretical principles and practical approach to design product and systems within the scope of determined program requirements.
2. Work with manager and more experienced engineers to make decisions on engineering problems and methods.
3. Represent the organization in supplier meetings to resolve important questions and to plan and coordinate work.
4. Can autonomously manage multiple low to medium difficulty projects proactively.
5. Accurately estimate and build project timelines within phase gate product development framework.
6. Oversee and coordinate multiple low to medium action items concurrently while delegating work when necessary.
7. Perform tasks under the guidance of a manager or more experienced engineers, addressing complex challenges
8. Conduct detailed feasibility studies for any proposed product or systems, including reviewing design and development plans, cost estimates, and engineering proposals.
9. Coordinate and schedule technical development activities, resolving design and testing issues with support from managers and senior engineers as needed.
10. May act as a liaison, along with a more senior engineer, with internal customer and supplier representatives to ensure adherence of design specifications to the ultimate user's needs and requirements.
11. Clear communicator. Presents design and management reviews will little support from higher level engineers or manager.
12. Develop structured PowerPoint presentations that communicate findings effectively to internal stakeholders and outside vendors.
13. Use Excel formulas and charts to evaluate project metrics and present insights to team members.
14. Moderate 3D CAD and 2D drafting skills. Capable of running basic FEA studies, consulting mentor/manager with setup.
15. Constantly review and implement changes as needed to keep active projects on time.
16. Prioritize engineering projects in alignment with the needs and strategic goals of the organization.
17. Maintain close contact with associated team leaders, business unit managers and executive team.
18. Minimize negative financial impact within the various facilities during project implementation.
19. Works closely with Product Management in developing new products and customer desired feature sets.
20. Performs other duties as requested.
Job Qualifications
Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited institution or program with one and half (1.5) or more years of direct work experience in the area. Must have technical, analytical, planning, and organizational skills. Must possess an understanding of new product development and new product introduction. Must possess a large spectrum of academic engineering principles and a basic understanding of business-related initiatives. Must have demonstrated experience facilitating projects and solutions with multiple interactions. Must have strong oral and written skills with the ability to present both technical analysis and financial based justifications allowing further decision making within all levels of the organization. Ability to function in an environment of changing priorities, goals, and direction often amid stressful conditions and under time constraints. Strong team focus and the ability to work with others, both internal and external to the organization.
