Product Engineer A&C (Automation and Controls)

We are now looking for a Switzerland based Product Engineer A&C to join our Product Management and Engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting our product managers with product life-cycle information, managing projects and providing customer information.

The only location being considered for this position is in Frauenfeld (Switzerland). In accordance with the local hybrid work model, you will be able to work partially remotely. We are not considering individuals requiring relocation or relocation assistance at this time.

 

Your role and responsibilities

 

As a Product Engineer, Automation & Control, (A&C), you will have direct experience in engine controls, heavy industry/machinery automation and control systems. Your operational experience will allow you to provide expert knowledge. 

 

Your work will focus on these responsibilities:

 

Provide deep knowledge in the subject matter expert area of Automation & Control with high focus on WECS and UNIC system. Act as a Project Manager to support our Product Management for their product lifecycle (product launch, obsolescence, and product discontinuation). Perform product care within the Product Improvement Process (PIP), like case assessment, case registration, Root Cause Analysis and solution validation. Provision of support during product launches of service products onto markets. Carry out necessary measurements and analysis on engines in operation as well as on shop test or sea trial Visit sites when deeper product, system and/or performance analysis is needed. Describe procedures and suggest modifications of existing instructions Assist in training of internal personnel related to specialist area Report and propose improvement needs of the products and solutions for relevant internal stakeholders. Ensure adherence to deadlines, costs, and quality. Be a technical contact for internal stakeholders.

 

Requirements for the position: 

 

Either a BSc or MSc in either Mechanical Engineering or Automation and Controls. Alternatively, vocational experience such as a Chief Engineer with multiple years of experience working on board a vessel in an operational engine room environment (in a role such as Field Service Engineer or a similar position) is also acceptable.  We would also consider Automation and Control experts from heavy industry / plant machinery industries who are able to learn our systems. Be based in Switzerland currently or be a native Swiss national / naturalised national. Proficient in written and spoken English is a must have. Project management skills are highly desirable.

 

To be successful in this role, we expect you to have:

 

Recognised operational Automation and Control system experience (ideally for example Wartsila's UNIC based WECS). Solid knowledge in automation systems and control technologies. Several years of experience in automation and control engineering, ideally in the maritime or energy sector. Since our field is highly specialized, experienced A&C engineers from other industries are also welcome, provided they are willing to learn our software on the job. Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet/IP). Structured and planned way of working. Focused with a positive, can-do attitude. Knowledge of Operations & Maintenance. Team player with a proactive mindset and strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Dedicated and committed to achieving results in a dynamic environment where products are designed, manufactured, installed, and maintained globally.
