Procurement & Purchasing Specialist
Department: Supply Chain / Operations Reports To: VP of Supply Chain Location: South Hackensack, NJ Employment Type: $75,000 - $90,000 Position Summary: The Procurement & Purchasing Specialist will be responsible for executing and overseeing all sourcing, purchasing, and supplier coordination activities in alignment with MES’s operational goals. This role ensures timely and cost-effective acquisition of parts, components, equipment, and services necessary for manufacturing and production. The ideal candidate is highly organized, technically proficient, and capable of maintaining strong vendor relationships while supporting internal departments through accurate forecasting and proactive material planning. Key Responsibilities: + Manage end-to-end purchasing processes, from requisition to purchase order issuance, following MES-approved sourcing and vendor policies. + Evaluate supplier capabilities, negotiate pricing, lead times, and payment terms to secure optimal conditions without compromising quality or delivery schedules. + Maintain and update the MRP/ERP system to reflect accurate part numbers, lead times, vendor pricing, and purchasing history. + Ensure all purchases are aligned with production demand forecasts and engineering change notifications. + Monitor inventory levels to avoid shortages or overstock situations, in collaboration with planning and warehouse teams. + Track open purchase orders and follow up with vendors to ensure on-time delivery; escalate delays or shortages to operations leadership. + Collaborate closely with the engineering, production, and quality departments to understand material specifications and ensure compliance with technical requirements. + Source and qualify new suppliers as needed, ensuring alignment with MES’s quality and regulatory standards. + Prepare and maintain accurate procurement reports, KPIs, and supplier performance metrics. + Support internal audits and participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to supply chain and purchasing processes. Qualifications: + Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Business, Engineering, or a related field preferred. + Minimum 2–3 years of experience in a procurement or purchasing role in a manufacturing environment. + Strong knowledge of purchasing procedures, supplier negotiation, and inventory planning. + Familiarity with MRP/ERP systems (experience with Elliot / SAP is a plus). + Ability to read technical drawings and interpret basic part specifications. + Excellent communication and vendor relationship management skills. + Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and other procurement-related software tools. + Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
