Job Description:
The Process Engineering Superintendent provides process engineering and optimization support to the refinery via technical leadership to a team of process engineers. The role also ensures that technical resources are allocated and prioritized appropriately.
In this role you will (be):
Provide Support to Current Operations:
- Manage process changes required to accommodate process equipment maintenance
- Ensure equipment and process are supervised and trouble-shooting expertise is provided.
- Ensure that the technical guidance required for proper target setting is available daily
- Ensure that equipment performance is being reflected in the optimization targets.
- Understand, monitor, and manage unit heat and material balances.
- Leading all aspects of catalyst performance monitoring and management.
- Ensure consistency in process of technical evaluations, reviews, reporting etc.
- Participate in incident investigations
- Manage resourcing, together with Process Safety, for HAZOP/LOPA studies
- Provide technical support and leadership on product quality issues and find opportunities for improvements
- Provide technical ownership of commercial contracts as applicable
- Ensure regular plant tests are conducted to maintain accurate models and identify asset performance deterioration.
- Support TAR planning and execution via allocation of resources and unit scope definition.
- Ensure cover is provided to support current operations
- Ensure process engineering expertise is available to support the business goals of the Refinery.
- Ensure participation in the refinery process technology networks
- Maintain current knowledge of technology specialty
- Support the innovation process in the business unit by identifying and initiating growth and innovation projects.
- Ensure team provides technical feedback into Regulatory and Sustaining Projects as requested.
- Provide management administration to team members.
- In conjunction with the other Superintendents, generate, maintain and complete a succession and development plan for the engineering team
- Provide leadership and coaching to PE team, in both technical and work prioritization aspects
- Work closely with Operations Superintendents to ensure that process engineering support needs are being met
- Managing the accountabilities' delivery of CMS contractors
- Responsible for bottom-up build of variable cost budget including energy costs
- Support incident management as a member of the Incident Management Team (IMT)
What you'll need to be successful:
- Bachelor’s Degree (preferably Masters Degree) or equivalent experience in Chemical Engineering required.
- Demonstrated ability to work in multi-functional teams with excellent interpersonal communication skills.
- 10 years of proven experience in a refining or manufacturing environment preferred.
- The ability to deliver technical solutions that improve on stream availability eliminates failures and optimizes the refinery's assets.
- Recognized technical expertise in a refining process technology area or unit operations.
- Understanding of the manufacturing process including economics, commercial awareness, optimization opportunity identification and proper use of technology
- Experience managing technical engineering teams in a refinery or chemical plant preferred.
