Process Automation & Safety Systems SME

If you are a Process Automation Engineer looking for an opportunity to grow and develop professionally, Emerson has an exciting opportunity for you! We are seeking a Process Automation & Safety Systems Subject Matter Expert to join our St. Louis, MO team.

You will provide technical leadership and strategic guidance in the areas of Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), Advanced Process Control (APC). This role is pivotal in driving engineering excellence, execution efficiency, successful startups, and business growth across multiple domains for North America.

In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:

Serve as the go-to authority for process control and safety systems, offering deep technical knowledge and innovative solutions, mentoring and guiding engineering teams to optimize performance and ensure strategic resourcing Provide expert guidance on SIL Verification and advisement where appropriate for Risk Assessment, Fault Tree Analysis, and Consequence Analysis. Lead engineering teams through project execution, and process startup for DCS, SIS, and APC systems on multi-million dollar projects and turnarounds (TA) for large capital projects. Drive standardization of instrumentation proof testing and lifecycle safety system management for customers. Support sales initiatives by collaborating with Business Development and Sales teams and assisting in proposals and identify growth opportunities in automation and safety systems. Work closely with Emerson Impact Partners and internal sales teams to develop strategies, improve solution coverage, and enhance customer satisfaction. Stay informed on market trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in process automation and safety systems representing Emerson in industry forums and technical training sessions.

For This Role, You Will Need:

Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree Minimum 15 years of experience in process control, automation, and safety systems. Certified Functional Safety Expert (CFSE); FE/EEIT certification in Chemical Engineering. Ability to design, configure, and troubleshoot DeltaV software and hardware systems. Capability to travel and independently commission and startup systems, including tuning, optimizing, and training. Strong communication skills with both technical and executive audiences. Excellent analytical, organizational, and leadership skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams. Legal Authorization to work in the US without sponsorship now or in the future

Preferred Qualifications that Set You Apart:

MBA Proven track record in process automation with experience in refinery operations and safety systems. Solid understanding of instrumentation fundamentals and process dynamics. Familiarity with Emerson Sales processes and teams: Emerson Impact Partners, Business Development, and Proposals. Experience leading the startup of the world’s first fully automated delayed Coker unit.
