Probabilistic Risk Assessment Engineer (Nuclear Industry)

Johnson Service Group (JSG) is a nationally recognized professional staffing firm and we are recruiting an experienced Probabilistic Risk Assessment Engineer for a direct hire role with a leading nuclear technology company that is changing the industry for the better. This role offers the ability to work fully remote with an estimated 5-10% travel throughout the United States.
Annual Base Salary: $130,000 - $150,000 + full benefits package
Location: Remote - 5-10% travel
Education: BS in Engineering or Physical Science required
Background: Must have a Nuclear background
Certifications: PMI / PMP preferred
Position Summary:
This role will develop and support analyses in the area of probabilistic risk assessment (PRA) and/or severe accident analysis. The candidate will be experienced in performing PRA analyses in accordance with the appropriate industry standards and guidance, authoring and reviewing PRA-related documents, and providing results and insights to support the advancement of industry design.
Responsibilities: Develop logic models and perform risk calculations using industry-standard risk assessment methods and simulation tools (e.g., SAPHIRE, RELAP, MELCOR) without supervision. Prepare, check, and review engineering reports, calculations, system descriptions, and probabilistic risk assessments without supervision, such as data analyses (should be familiar with probabilistic models and Bayesian techniques), system modeling using fault trees and sequence modeling using event trees, external hazards (e.g., seismic, fire). Prepare, check, and review risk-informed applications (e.g., Maintenance Rule). Develop resolutions to complex problems that require the frequent use of creativity and innovation. Effectively communicate with other technical and nontechnical disciplines, customers, and regulators; should understand the uses and limitations CDF, LRF, and LERF as risk metrics and impacts on risk significance. Interacts with coworkers and other disciplines to promote effective coordination of design activities and resolution of technical problems. Individuals should be interested in acquiring general knowledge of principles and practices of related fields in order to function on multi-disciplinary teams. Demonstrates understanding and implementation of quality assurance regulations, standards, and guidelines of 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, and NQA-1.
Education / Experience: Bachelor’s degree in engineering or physical science is required. Advance degree preferred. 5+ years of experience in probabilistic risk assessment and/or severe accident analysis is required, preferably on commercial nuclear power plants. Demonstrated knowledge in functional discipline and its practical application and has detailed knowledge of engineering concepts, applicable industry codes, standards, and regulations, with an emphasis on new and advanced designs. Exceptional organization skills, technical writing skills, and communications skills (computer, presentation, interpersonal) as well as the ability to manage complex projects with multiple work phases. Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.
