+ As a Penn e-Lert RT, you won’t be at the bedside—but you’ll be deeply connected to it. Our team collaborates with bedside clinicians across the health system to improve outcomes, elevate care, and support clinical decision-making 24/7.
+ You’ll help drivesafe, high-quality respiratory care across the health system and act as a clinical resource to bedside teams—leveraging virtual technology to enhance outcomes and support frontline staff.
+ One of the most unique aspects of our role? We remotely manage ventilators for donor patients in the organ procurement unit using novelsoftware that brings the ventilator directly to our desktop. This enables us to implement advanced lung-protection strategies and enhance organ viability.

Schedule:36 hours in 6 weeks. 12 of the hours must be on the weekend.

Summary:
+ A Respiratory Therapist Level 1 (RT1) is a member of the healthcare team who provides expertise in managing patients of all ages who have respiratory disease or acute conditions impacting their ability to breath. The RT1 provides respiratory care to patients in the general, critical care and emergency room environments. The RT1 position is an entry level position for new graduates of a respiratory care program or those who are licensed and hold the Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential but have not obtained the Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential.
Responsibilities:
+ Perform physical assessment of a patient’s pulmonary status and make recommendations for appropriate respiratory care
+ Administer oxygen via various standard delivery devices as well as specialized heated high flow devices and a hyperbaric chamber
+ Administer aerosolized medications via nebulizer, MDI, DPI or other devices
+ Administer prescribed inhaled nitric oxide or aerosolized prostacyclin
+ Evaluate and maintain artificial airways of various sizes
+ Set up, adjust, maintain, and clean various types and brands of mechanical ventilators
+ Perform advanced procedures on patients with severe hypoxemia including prone positioning, lung recruitment maneuvers and more
+ Set up, adjust, maintain, and clean various types and brands of non-invasive BiPAP & CPAP devices
+ Transport critically ill patients on respiratory modalities
+ Respond to hospital emergencies including rapid response, code call, etc..
+ Utilize approved RT protocols
+ Perform ABG & other diagnostic tests to evaluate the extent of disease or effectiveness of treatment
+ Perform EKG testing, phlebotomy, IV insertion and other non-traditional roles and/or responsibilities based on department and/or location need
+ Document patient care activities and enter charges in current electronic data system
+ Complete annual competencies and continuing education as determined by hospital policy, credential and state licensing requirements.
+ Maintain active RT credential(s) and PA state RT license
+ Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures
+ Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization
Credentials:
+ License to Practice as a Respiratory Therapist in PA (Required)
+ Registered Respiratory Therapist by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) required within 1 year of date of hire. (Required)
+ BLS Healthcare Provider Certification (Required)
+ ACLS (NRP required within 6 months of hire) (Preferred)
Education or Equivalent Experience:
+ Associate's Degree AS/AAS in Respiratory Care And minimum 500 clinical hours in RT program (Required)
+ Graduate of Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) accredited Respiratory Care program. (Required)
+ Bachelor's Degree (Preferred)
