As a Database Principal Software Engineer at JPMorgan Chase within the Consumer & Community Banking, you are an integral part of an agile team that works to enhance, build, and deliver trusted market-leading technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way. As a core technical contributor, you are responsible for conducting critical technology solutions across multiple technical areas within various business functions in support of the firm’s business objectives.

 

Job responsibilities

Contribute as Database Engineer and development expert, working with application development teams to develop, execute and support database modernization/optimization/performance tuning/design activitiesProvide thought leadership and modernization support to application development (AD) teams through the analysis, migration, and post migration efforts for their database footprintsPartner with PaaS, DBaaS, and Cloud Delivery teams to resolve issues and influence implementation of self service capabilities to support the AD teamsParticipate in tactical and strategic database modernization planning and development of database modernization patternsProvide direct support for development teams performing database modernization activitiesSupport AD teams in DB design activitiesSupport AD teams in troubleshooting and resolution of production database issues and contribute to root cause analysis supporting problem management workstreamsPerform proactive reviews of database implementations to enhance performance, efficiency, resiliency, and cost optimizationContribute to the design and development of tools to accelerate modernization effortsSupport AD teams in upskilling database development and support competenciesPartner with other Center Of Excellence teams in setting best practices, guidelines and proper design patterns across various DB technologies

 

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 10+ years applied experienceHands-on practical experience in database system design, performing database development and performance testing, and ensuring operational stability10+ years’ experience working as database engineering for Oracle, SQL Server, Aurora Postgres, CockroachDB, MongoDB      and experience with AWS and/or Azure and associated database servicesExperience supporting databases in DevOps and proficient in automation and continuous delivery methodsProficient in all aspects of the Software Development Life CycleAdvanced understanding of agile methodologies such as CI/CD, Application Resiliency, and SecurityDemonstrated proficiency in software applications and technical processes within a technical discipline (e.g., cloud, artificial intelligence, machine learning, mobile, etc.)Demonstrable experience performing database upgrades and migrationsMust be able to self-motivate to support delivery whether individually or as part of a teamExcellent written and verbal communication skills
