The KinetiX Inspection Technologies suite offers automated proactive monitoring solutions for rolling stock condition, ranging from component-level to full train inspection. **Position Overview:**  The KinetiX team is seeking a Principal Software Architect to lead the system and software architecture for wayside solutions and portal products. This role requires an experienced software and hardware architect with a deep understanding of wayside inspection systems, edge computing, and cloud backend data centers. **Duties and Responsibilities:** + **Architectural Leadership:**  Lead the effort to capture the architecture of current systems and drive the evolution of next-generation product and solution architecture, covering product architecture, wayside compute, and backend systems. + **Unified Application Platform:**  Design the high-level architecture of a unified application platform that accommodates data from different application types and provides a unified user interface. + **Technical Vision:**  Drive the technical vision, collaborate with stakeholders, and ensure the effective implementation of the architecture. + **Integration Strategy:**  Create an architectural blueprint that outlines the integration strategy, identifies key components, and defines interfaces and data flows. + **Enterprise Scale Application:**  Deliver software architecture for an enterprise-scale application that utilizes microservices and cloud-native software development principles. + **Legacy Systems Modernization:**  Identify opportunities for integration, define integration patterns, and develop strategies to migrate or modernize legacy systems. Ensure data consistency, interoperability, and seamless communication between different components. + **Technology Evaluation:**  Lead efforts to evaluate various technologies, frameworks, and tools that can be leveraged to achieve integration and harmonization goals. Make informed decisions about the selection of appropriate technologies that align with the organization's objectives, considering factors such as scalability, performance, security, and maintainability. + **Collaboration:**  Collaborate closely with development teams, product managers, systems engineers, project managers, business stakeholders, and other architects to align the technical vision with business requirements. + **Mentorship and Leadership:**  Provide guidance, mentorship, and technical leadership to development teams, ensuring adherence to architectural guidelines and best practices throughout the development lifecycle. + **Risk Management:**  Identify and manage risks associated with the integration and harmonization process. Anticipate potential challenges such as data inconsistencies, security vulnerabilities, or performance bottlenecks, and develop mitigation strategies to address these risks effectively. + **Security and Compliance:**  Understand security and compliance requirements; establish seamless integration with Cyber Security and Compliance teams. Support Cyber Security procedures for the product portfolio. + **Configurable Product Architecture:**  Drive the delivery of configurable product architecture to solve common problems and achieve the product architecture vision. Deliver framework components and design guidelines for services and library components. + **Problem Decomposition:**  Demonstrate expert-level skill in problem decomposition and the ability to navigate through ambiguity. + **Persuasion and Influence:**  Demonstrate superior persuasion and influencing skills to ensure alignment between customers, product managers, and engineering teams. + **Industry Expertise:**  Exhibit excellent business acumen by staying up-to-date on the latest industry trends and being recognized as a Subject Matter Expert (SME). **Qualifications:** + Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or in “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) + 10+ Years of experience in system or software architecture for inspection systems + Proven experience in software and hardware architecture, particularly in wayside inspection systems, edge computing, and cloud backend data centers. + Strong understanding of microservices, cloud-native software development principles, and enterprise-scale applications. + Excellent collaboration, leadership, and mentorship skills. + Ability to evaluate and select appropriate technologies based on organizational objectives. + Expertise in risk management and mitigation strategies. + Knowledge of security and compliance requirements. + Superior problem-solving, persuasion, and influencing skills. + Up-to-date knowledge of industry trends and best practices. Our job titles may span more than one career level. The salary range for this role is between $102,500.00-$146,000.00 The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location.
