**We are searching for the best talent for a Principal Scientist, Muscle Biology - Aging & Metabolism to be in Spring House, PA or Cambridge, MA.**
**Purpose:**
The Principal Scientist plays a pivotal role in shaping drug discovery and translational research strategies to address aging-related degenerative diseases. This position leverages deep expertise in muscle biology to accelerate therapeutic development for conditions such as cardiovascular disease, thrombosis, and sarcopenia. Additionally, the role contributes to J&J therapeutic initiatives across neuroscience, immunology, and oncology.
**You will be responsible for:**
• Provide scientific leadership and drug discovery expertise in skeletal, cardiac, and smooth muscle biology, driving innovation in therapeutic approaches for age-related diseases.
• Proficiency in in vivo and in vitro studies execution and animal models expertise in age-related pathogenesis is essential.
• Support strategic collaborations across J&J’s Cross-Therapeutic Area (TA) and MedTech teams, leveraging interdisciplinary expertise to accelerate biomarker and therapeutic development.
• Support the evaluation of early- and late-stage assets, guiding translational strategies for novel and repurposed candidates.
• Foster strong partnerships across internal and external teams, including biologists, technical experts, clinicians, and external research collaborators to advance therapeutic programs.
• Build and maintain strong collaborations within the TA (TA R&D, Clinical Development, DPDS) and partnering functions (Regulatory, Global Development, Medical Affairs, Commercial).
**Qualifications / Requirements:**
**Education:**
• Bachelor’s degree is required
• Master’s degree or PhD is highly preferred
**Required:**
• Minimum of 8-10 years’ experience working in muscle biology and metabolism in the Pharmaceutical/Biotechnology industry, or Academia
• Excellent communication skills
• Excellent knowledge of standard office software (e.g., Outlook, MS office, etc.,) and other computer systems and technologies (e.g., Zoom/Teams, SharePoint, etc.)
• Ability to work effectively independently and collaborate in a global team environment
• Ability and willingness to work in a global matrix environment with cross-functional, international teams
• Ability to think dynamically, with a strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities
• Strong publication track record
• Travel up to 10% of the time (domestic and international), defined by business needs.
**Preferred:**
• Previous project leadership in muscle biology
The anticipated base pay range for this position in the US is $137,000 to $235,750.
The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/ performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis.
