Principal Risk Manager, Risk Readiness & Continual Improvement
Description This role is a Principal Program Manager within the North America Surface Transportation Safety & Compliance organization, where it supports the Risk Readiness & Continual Improvement (RRCI) team. The person in this role will be responsible for transforming our current litigation project management tool into a scalable, cross-functional product leveraged by internal and external stakeholders. This role will own simplifying and automating the end-to-end process for legal and regulatory support requests involving Amazon. This position will also speak on behalf of Amazon as a corporate representative in high-pressure legal proceeding environments, verify legal documents on behalf of Amazon, and educate external stakeholders on the innerworkings of the Middle Mile transportation network, including third-party (3P) and first-party (1P) logistics. Success in this role demands strong communication skills to analyze and convey industry trends, and identify gaps in existing programs, products, or policies concisely. The Principal Program Manager should have proven experience in project management and product development, knowledge of transportation logistics (preferably in e-commerce), and an innovative mindset focused on simplification and automation. This position combines strategic vision with practical execution skills to drive improvements in our risk readiness processes and tools. Key job responsibilities • Support litigation proceedings by participating in depositions, acting as a corporate representative, and/or representing Amazon in trials • Transition an existing project management tool into a cross functional product for managing litigation and regulatory requests internally and externally • Develop a broad understanding of Middle Mile business and internal programs, processes, and systems through collaborative, influential internal and external relationships with Tech, Program, Field, and other stakeholders • Stay informed on industry trends and internal product and process improvements • Be a foundation of truth; educating external stakeholders unfamiliar with Amazon and simplifying complex information for internal stakeholder and senior leaders • Execute timely responses to Legal, regulatory, and public relations requests with a high level of accuracy • Establish audits and other quantitative mechanisms to ensure the ongoing effectiveness and efficiency of the program • Support the use of artificial intelligence to enhance Amazon's response to legal and regulatory requests • Travel 10-15% of your time, currently About the team The RRCI team plays a critical role in Amazon's risk readiness and response, particularly for transportation services performed within what is known as the Middle Mile. We act as a liaison and foundation of truth between a multi-disciplined group of stakeholders, including risk and legal teams, business leaders, and external regulatory or legal support teams. Our readiness responsibilities encompass reconciling details from a claim against internal data, taking subsequent action when violations of policy or terms of service are present, and conducting comprehensive risk assessments. By identifying potential risks and areas for improvement, the team contributes to enhancing Amazon's internal products and program while minimizing future business risk. The team’s work spans from detailed data verification in complex legal proceedings to providing high-level business recommendations, all to support Amazon's risk mitigation strategy for transportation-related incidents.
