Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated scientist to join our Pharmacology and Cell Biology group within Discovery Psychiatry. The ideal candidate will have strong psychiatry and drug discovery experience and will work cross functionally to help identify new psychiatry targets and drive validation and progression efforts. The incumbent will use their expertise to generate new scientific proposals, critically evaluate relevant scientific literature and integrate this knowledge into research and development programs. This is an excellent opportunity to work at the forefront of psychiatric research as part of a dynamic and growing team.
 

Key Responsibilities:

Participate in cross-functional teams to drive strategy for novel target ID and target prioritizationOversee the development of target validation plans and monitor progressMay serve as the project lead responsible for coordinating cross-functional activities and representing team at governance forums from Hit Generation through Candidate NominationIdentify and solve technical problems independently, implement new assays and workflows, conceive and implement innovative research ideasSupervise junior scientists providing scientific and technical leadership in the design and execution of experiments, and be accountable for the effective performance of the teamEnsure consistency and quality of technical reportsCollaborate with colleagues at various AbbVie and external sitesPresent original work internally across departments and at internal and external scientific conferences; may author or co-author peer-reviewed scientific papers or patents
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

BS or equivalent education and extensive, Typically, 14+ years of experience; MS or equivalent education with typically 12+ years of experience; PhD with typically 6+ years of experience in area or scientific area of discipline.Strong background in psychiatry research and drug development, including understanding of cutting edge in vitro and/or in vivo modelsProven track record in target validation, drug discovery and preclinical progressionExperience in working in multidisciplinary teams to accomplish strategic goalsExperience managing direct reports, including providing performance evaluations and development opportunitiesExcellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneouslyDemonstrated ability to collaborate effectively in a dynamic, cross-functional matrix environmentCandidate must be a goal-oriented team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong “can-do” attitude

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior project and team leadership in the pharmaceutical / biotech industryExperience in target ID and prioritization

The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range.
