Principal Mechanical Engineer
**Job Overview:** The Principal Mechanical Engineer is responsible for interpreting internal or external business issues and recommending best practices. They will be tasked with solving complex Mechanical Engineering-related problems and will work independently with minimal guidance. The Principal Mechanical Engineer may be responsible for leading functional teams or projects and is regarded as a specialist in Mechanical Engineering. As such, they must have in-depth expertise as well as broad knowledge of the Mechanical discipline within the Engineering function. **Key Tasks and Responsibilities:** + Lead Engineer Material Handling role spear-heading a team of engineer/designer to perform engineering for FEED and detailed design for mainly offshore projects including CPP/LQ/WHP/FPSO/FPU/etc. + As a Lead Engineer, should be able to provide total commitment to meet project values, monitoring of progress to achieve delivery objective, execute within appropriate resources, be pro-active, creative in project execution + Should have performed FEED/Detailed Engineering for Material Handling of large complex topsides for offshore FPSO projects. + To develop philosophy used to perform a mechanical handling study for the offshore facility covering all mechanical and material handling requirements + To conduct a study to establish the required number, location and capacities of Topsides cranes and other mechanical handling equipment to cover all Topsides and lay down considering hazardous area classification as part of its selection process for cranes and other items of equipment handling. Mechanical and material handling study shall consider all items of equipment or part of any items of equipment/packages with less than the design service life + To undertake mechanical and material handling equipment design works to develop a general specification for mechanical and material handling equipment + Understanding and applying knowledge of design codes, industries standard and practices and Interpretation of the requirement to meet project requirement + Competent to resolve problems /trouble shoot based on Codes & Standards interpretation + Understand Codes limitation, apply with accuracy and effectiveness + In-depth understanding of Clients specification + Review and raise clarifications on the ITB /Client documents/ Contractual documents in case of ambiguity in definition / lack of clarity / lack of reference/ areas of doubt etc. based on specialist experience /judgment. + Mechanical and material handling equipment shall include, as a minimum, the following: + Cranes + Material handling equipment + Winches + Maintenance workshop equipment and tools + To perform, but not be limited to, the following package design works: + Mechanical Handling Philosophy + Mechanical & Material Handling Study + Terms of Reference for Mechanical & Material Handling Workshop + Mechanical & Material Handling Workshop Report + Prepare Equipment Design Basis for Mechanical and Material Handling Equipment + Prepare specification and data sheet for pedestal crane (topside crane) + Prepare specification and data sheet for material handling equipment + Prepare specification and data sheet for lifting beams including overhead cranes at workshop + Prepare specification and data sheet for workshop equipment and tools + Supply input data of 3D Model for each equipment/package item + Prepare Requisition for Quotation (RFQ) and Technical Bid Evaluation (TBE); and + Supply preliminary mechanical and material handling equipment GA drawings weight and CoG data + Vendor Data Review/incorporation for LLE + To conduct Mechanical and Material Handling Workshop to be organized after the completion of 60% and 90% Model Review + Take part and contribute to 3D Model, Constructability reviews, etc. + Produce quality engineering deliverables / service and meeting JV/ Client expectation + Liaise with: + Various discipline Engineers and Designers to fulfill handling design in 3D model + Liaise with various Package REs to incorporate handling requirements in package design + Clients to obtain design approvals and comment close outs as per project design requirements + Mentor and guide junior engineers + Support fabrication, offshore installation, and commissioning phases + Witness the Vendor FAT / shop testing, and review test reports and provide relevant comments if any + Participate effectively to resolve any issues related to equipment testing in case of failures / deficiencies /under-performance /discrepancy during shop testing **Essential Qualifications and Education:** + Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering + 18+ years experience in offshore/subsea mechanical/material handling engineering and design + Strong knowledge of industry standards and offshore project delivery + Proficient in engineering review tools + Excellent leadership, coordination, and communication skills **Preferred Qualifications and Education:** + Master’s degree is a plus \#LI-RI1 Our ingenuity fuels daily life.
