This is a fully remote position, allowing you to work from home or location of record within the U.S. with no in-office requirements. You must be available five days per week during designated work hours. The work arrangement for this role is subject to change based on business needs and individual performance. The Role
The Principal FinOps Engineer is an experienced and strategic leader of our hybrid infrastructure cost management initiatives. In this role, you will drive visibility, accountability, and optimization of infrastructure spend across both cloud and on-premise environments.
You will play a critical part in developing and implementing showback models for our on-premise workloads, collaborating with Finance, Engineering, and Business stakeholders to build cost transparency and drive cost-efficient behaviors across the organization.
This is a high-impact, cross-functional role suited for someone who thrives at the intersection of engineering, finance, and strategy.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the design and implementation of on-premise infrastructure showback models, integrating technical usage data with financial cost models. Design and create automation and self-service workflows for Engineering teams using APIs and other scripting tools to allow teams to forecast, budget and track their workloads in both public and private cloud. Partner with infrastructure and finance teams to define cost allocation strategies across compute, storage, network, power, licensing, and facility overhead. Deliver accurate, actionable cost reporting to engineering leaders and business stakeholders. Drive adoption of FinOps practices across both cloud and on-prem environments through education, tooling, and governance. Identify and recommend opportunities for cost savings and resource optimization within on-prem and cloud workloads. Evaluate and implement tooling to support showback, chargeback, and consumption-based cost reporting (e.g., Ternary, AWS Cost Explorer etc.). Lead initiatives to improve data quality, tagging hygiene, anomaly detection / tracking and telemetry required for financial modeling, presenting findings, recommendations and next steps to Senior and Executive leadership. Present cost insights and trends to executive leadership to support budgeting, forecasting, and strategic decision-making.The Expertise and Skills You Bring
Experience:
10+ years of experience in hybrid cloud infrastructure, cloud engineering, or DevOps roles 5+ years specifically focused on FinOps or cloud cost optimization Proven experience implementing showback or chargeback models in hybrid cloud. Proven experience with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, Azure, or GCP) Work with distributed teams to influence strategy, tactics, and execution of cloud usage. Deep understanding of FinOps principles across Inform, Optimize, and Operate phases.Technical Skills:
Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) and infrastructure-as-code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation). Familiarity with cloud billing APIs and reporting tools. Experience building APIs and other automations that integrate private and public cloud cost and usage data. Strong understanding of Windows Server, SQL Server and .NET runtimes Strong understanding of Kubernetes, serverless, and containerized workloads Strong technical knowledge of on-premise infrastructure platforms (e.g., VMware, bare metal, SAN/NAS storage, enterprise networking). Familiarity with FinOps analysis and reporting tools (e.g. Ternary, Kubecost, CloudZero)Soft Skills:
Strong communication skills to convey complex financial and technical data to non-technical audiences Experience facilitating budgetary meetings with stakeholders and finance, aligning spend to budgets, highlighting deviations and developing remediation strategies. Passion for continuous improvement and driving a culture of accountabilityNice to Have
FinOps Certified Practitioner (or higher certification). Knowledge of enterprise financial processes and accounting basics

This role can be performed from any office in the US. The pay range for this position is $117,800 - $218,800; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This position is eligible for an annual bonus and restricted stock unit grant based on individual performance in addition to a full range of benefits outlined here.
