Principal Environmental Planner/Scientist

Join a team that’s naturally committed to the environment. **Your Opportunity** Stantec’s Mountain Region seeks an environmental planner and project manager with at least 10 years of experience with preparing environmental documentation and strong understanding of environmental laws and regulations that influence planning and project development. The primary duty of this role is to manage planning and permitting projects for a wide range of clients across diverse geographic locations and industries in Alaska. The role also includes supporting business development activities and working collaboratively with other Stantec practices areas in the region. Preference for staff being located in the State of Alaska. **Your Key Responsibilities** * Participate in the NEPA planning process and oversee all aspects of a project from the pursuit phase through project execution, including client contact, proposal preparation, client interviews, schedules, personnel allocation/planning, HSSE (as applicable), technical approach, quality assurance, budget management, invoicing, and subcontractor management. * Coordinate with clients, regulatory/resource agencies, local governments. * Help organize technical studies and resource teams with assessments and various field surveys * Lead the preparation of NEPA documentation including environmental impact statements (EISs), Environmental Assessments (EAs), Categorical Exclusions (CEs). * Serve as a local team leader reporting to the business center leadership team to support technical excellence, safety, and growth in Alaska. * In the near term, supervise a team focused on assessment and permitting and help with coordination with other environmental services areas (e.g., remediation) in Alaska. Qualifications **Your Capabilities and Credentials** * Thorough understanding of technical environmental impact analysis methods and sound knowledge of NEPA requirements and related environmental regulations * Team oriented with strong capability to motivate others * Project management and financial literacy training and/or experience * Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills * Demonstrated experience managing multiple planning projects and ability to motivate self and others to overcome obstacles and achieve goals * Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure and to prioritize and balance sometimes heavy workloads to achieve goals while keeping up with a highly mobile and changing environment * Demonstrated ability in collaborative problem solving with stakeholders, clients, and teammates * Must be a highly motivated self-starter * Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint * Experience with various federal agencies’ NEPA requirements * Experience in staff supervision and collaboration across business units/geographies is desirable * Prior to employment, this position may require the successful passing of a pre-employment drug screen. **Education and Experience** * B.S. in planning and/or related environmental discipline; Master’s degree in planning and/or related environmental discipline preferred. * Minimum 10 years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education (e.g., advanced degree) and experience performing NEPA analysis and permitting for various types of federal, State and local regulatory agencies. * Minimum three years’ experience in staff supervision or program management This description is not a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that may be required of the employee and other duties, responsibilities and activities may be assigned or may be changed at any time with or without notice. **About Stantec** Stantec is a global leader in sustainable engineering, architecture, and environmental consulting. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location.
