This Composite Materials Principal Engineer role is embedded in a team of Composite Materials Application Engineers focused on providing experience and mentorship for the team to operate efficiently as possible to deliver on the needs of the business. Additionally, a principal engineer is expected to make significant contributions to the business and industry in their respective area(s) of expertise.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

Identify, develop, evaluate, and introduce engineering solutions to meet near term and long-range engineering needsProvide technical consultation on product problems throughout the business including supplier and field supportLead and provide the key technical direction to large projects with critical business impactMaintain an active role in developing and defining the state of the art in own technical specialty to anticipate, apply, adapt or develop technologies for product introduction, quality, performance, cost improvements and problem resolution in meeting current and future business needs including adherence to schedules and estimated costsSupport other GE businesses, internal and external customers, and suppliers as requiredProvide technical consultation to cross-functional teams throughout the business to improve or resolve manufacturing, product center, supplier, or field issuesEffectively communicate and provide recommendations through the analysis, preparation and presentation of technical data to internal and external GE customers using reports, records, and lettersUse knowledge and expertise to market winning proposals in anticipation of business product needsPrepare invention disclosures to protect technology that gives the business a competitive advantage, as well as protecting the intellectual property rights of the companyProvide technical guidance, direction and training to new and experienced materials engineers, specialists, technicians and co-ops.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer ScienceAt least 8 additional years of experience in an engineering capacity

Desired Characteristics

Expertise / experience in composite materials applications engineering preferably related to supporting the manufacture, design, and testing of PMC components.Familiar with APQP best practices and implementationFamiliar with process modeling and / or strong computational skills that could be developed for this capabilityStrong program management experience and digital management tool familiarityAbility to successfully work in a team environmentStrong oral and written communication skillsStrong interpersonal and leadership skillsDemonstrated ability to document, plan, market and manage programs that further the knowledge, understanding and capability of the businessProblem analysis and resolution skillsDemonstrated leadership in defining the state of the art in at least one technical specialty, along with the ability to teach and set standard practices within this field
