Principal Engineer, UWB Solutions
Allegion is looking for a passionate Principal Engineer, UWB Solutions to work as part of a highly engaged small team within a global organization of 12,000+ employees, representing 30+ brands (including Schlage, Von Duprin and LCN) focused on safety, security and access management. You’ll work on solutions that will enable seamless access and help keep you and your loved ones safe and secure where they work, live and thrive.
As Principal Engineer, UWB Solutions, you will build and lead a cross-functional team focused on pushing the boundaries of Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology for secure, power-efficient, and high-performance access control systems. You will drive the development of industry-leading UWB hardware and firmware, pioneering algorithms, comprehensive testing frameworks, and rigorous real-world validation protocols—positioning Allegion as a leader in UWB applications across multiple markets.

What you’ll do:
Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute the vision, strategy, and roadmap for Allegion’s UWB technology program in alignment with business objectives.Team Building & Talent Development: Recruit, mentor, and manage a multidisciplinary team of hardware and firmware engineers, algorithm developers, RF specialists, and security experts; implement ongoing training programs.Technical Oversight: Guide the design and implementation of UWB hardware and firmware, antenna systems, low-power architectures, and secure communication protocols.Algorithm Innovation: Oversee the development of advanced localization, intent detection, and sensor fusion algorithms; manage formal projects for custom tool creation.Data Management & Analysis: Establish robust data collection frameworks and pipelines to capture, process, and analyze sensor data from the field; leverage insights to optimize algorithm performance and validate system accuracy.Standards & Compliance: Ensure deep expertise in UWB standards (e.g., IEEE 802.15.4z), regulatory requirements, and industry best practices; engage with standards bodies and consortia.Testing & Validation: Establish rigorous testing frameworks, including automated and real-world test environments; drive security, beta, and use-case validation initiatives.Infrastructure Development: Lead the design and operation of a UWB lab, equipped for antenna simulation, power analysis, security testing, and automated validation.Continuous Improvement: Create knowledge-sharing platforms, feedback loops, and industry monitoring programs to ensure continuous innovation and alignment with market trends.Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate closely with product, engineering, and business units to ensure UWB solutions address real-world challenges and deliver customer value.What you need to succeed:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related technical field 10+ years’ experience in wireless/RF technology development, with a strong background in UWB, radar, and/or secure communication systemsProven leadership experience in building and managing high-performing technical teamsExpertise in RF hardware design, signal processing, embedded firmware and systems, and security protocolsExperience with regulatory compliance, standards development, and industry engagement (e.g., FCC, IEEE, CSA, FiRa)Demonstrated ability to develop and implement R&D or technology innovation programsExcellent communication, project management, and cross-functional collaboration skillsExcellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex software and hardware systemsBasic knowledge of C, C++, and Python programming languagesIn office collaboration 4 days a week on averagePreferred Qualifications & ExperienceMaster’s or PhD. in Computer Eng, Electrical Eng, Computer Science, or related technical fieldFamiliarity with AI/ML applications in signal processing or embedded systemsExperience productizing a broad array of algorithm developmentExperience productizing radar and other sensor and perception algorithms on embedded platformsExperience working with agile development teamsAllegion is a Great Place to Grow your Career if:
