At Thomson Reuters, our CoCounsel AI Assistant is transforming how legal professionals work. As a Principal Engineer for the CoCounsel AI Assistant team, you’ll provide technical leadership and architectural vision, working closely with the team’s Director to evolve our AI Assistant into an industry-leading platform that delivers cutting-edge capabilities across Thomson Reuters’ legal products.
About the Role
In this opportunity as Principal Engineer, CoCounsel AI Assistant, you will:
Lead the technical evolution of our AI Assistant platform, improving intent resolution and transforming it into a shared service that powers multiple legal products
Design and implement scalable solutions that reduce time and effort for product teams throughout Thomson Reuters to offer cutting-edge AI capabilities
Drive innovation by utilizing the latest technologies in large language models, agentic workflows, and generative AI to deliver professional-grade accuracy for legal professionals
Provide technical leadership for critically important projects, ensuring alignment with business objectives while designing long-term vision and strategy
Partner with cross-functional teams to translate requirements into actionable work, drawing out strong design ideas from diverse teams
Champion best practices and mentor other engineers, strengthening the organization's engineering culture through leadership and knowledge sharing and championing automation and use of AI dev tools
About You
You're a fit for the role of Principal Engineer, CoCounsel AI Assistant if your background includes:
7+ years of hands-on software engineering experience with a proven track record of developing scalable, web-based solutions
Strong software development skills in Python, Node.js, or similar modern server-side languages
Experience with modern UI frameworks (React, Angular, Vue or similar)
Expertise with AI technologies, including GenAI concepts like prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and fine-tuning
Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
Experience with AI Coding Tools
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to influence across organizational boundaries
Strong communication skills to articulate complex technical solutions both verbally and visually
Ability to navigate ambiguity, make data-driven decisions, and deliver in a fast-paced environment.
Demonstrated ability to mentor others and contribute to engineering culture
