Principal DevOps Automation Engineer - Developer Experience

About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a passionate DevOps Automation Engineer to help build and evolve our Internal Developer Platform (IDP) into a modern, self-service, GitOps-driven ecosystem. This role is ideal for a developer who understands the toil of infrastructure, someone who has experienced the challenges of deploying and operating applications and is driven to eliminate those barriers for others.
You’ll work hands-on to design and implement self-service automation, enabling developers to provision infrastructure, deploy services, and manage environments with minimal friction. Your work will help create a common control plane that abstracts hybrid cloud complexity and accelerates the adoption of cloud-native architectures.


In this role, you will:

Design and implement self-service workflows for common developer tasks such as service scaffolding, environment provisioning, and CI/CD setup.Build and maintain infrastructure-as-code (IaC) modules using tools like Terraform, Pulumi, or Crossplane.Integrate the IDP with internal systems including GitHub, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, secrets management, and observability platforms.Implement guardrails and policy-as-code to ensure secure, compliant, and scalable automation.Contribute to the development of developer portals, service catalogs, and golden paths that simplify application delivery.Monitor and improve the performance, reliability, and usability of the platform.Collaborate with product managers, UX designers, and developers to ensure the platform is intuitive and effective.Contribute to internal documentation and onboarding materials to support adoption and ease of use.


Required Qualifications:

7+ years of Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education5 + years of experience with IaC: Terraform, Ansible, Crossplane or similar tools5 + year of experience with CI/CD: GitHub Actions, ArgoCD, Jenkins, or equivalent5 + years of experience in Scripting & Programming: Python, Bash, or Go

Desired Qualifications:

IaC & Automation: Strong experience with Terraform, Pulumi, or similar tools.CI/CD Systems: Familiarity with GitHub Actions, ArgoCD, Jenkins, or equivalentScripting & Programming: Proficiency in Python, Bash, or GoContainers & Orchestration: Experience with Docker and KubernetesDeveloper Portals: Exposure to Backstage, Port, Cortex, or similar platformsGitOps: Understanding of declarative infrastructure and delivery using tools like ArgoCD or FluxObservability: Familiarity with Prometheus, Grafana, or ELK StackSecurity & Policy: Experience implementing policy-as-code and secure automation practicesExperience with service catalogs, API gateways, or internal developer tooling.Exposure to DevSecOps practices and security automationFamiliarity with hybrid cloud platforms (Azure, GCP, AWS)Background in platform engineering or developer enablement teams

Pay Range
 

Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to achievements, skills, experience, or work location. The range listed is just one component of the compensation package offered to candidates.

$159,000.00 - $305,000.00
