As a Principal Test Systems Engineer you will act as a primary point of contact for the design, development, fabrication, and implementation of electro-mechanical test systems to aid in the development and verification testing of new medical devices. You will be responsible for establishing system level strategies for the development of new custom test equipment, coordinating closely across functional areas to ensure alignment, helping to set direction and engineering standards for the group, and helping to develop the skills and knowledge base of other engineers. You will work as part of a team and partner closely with Test Engineers and Technicians in support of New Product Development (NPD) for Research and Development (R&D) at Stryker, Instruments Division.
What You will Do
Leading the collection of VOC from key stakeholders
Preparing timeline and cost estimations for projects
Coordinating with and directing external suppliers or vendors to ensure successful completion of projects
Providing input into the selection of test equipment and methodologies
Developing and fabricating prototype to evaluate new concepts
Providing input on the vision, scope, and specifications for future test systems
Supports all phases of test system development lifecycle including requirements, design, implementation, debug, verification and validation.
May coordinate the activities of 1 or more temporary employees
May develop reports on key metrics such as on-time delivery and efficiency detailing any delays in the testing schedule.
What You Need
Required Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
8+ years of relevant experience building test systems in a test lab.
CAD (ProE, SolidsWorks, AutoCAD) proficiency.
Mechanical/electrical problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
6 years of relevant experience with a Masters/PhD, preferred.
Basic understanding of testing, testing equipment, good laboratory practices, and department metrics.
Experience with root cause failure analysis, design input/output traceability, user need collection, and risk analysis.
Strong interpersonal communication and collaboration skills.
Comfortable and confident speaking in front of medium to large groups of people.
Test Lab/ Test System experience.
Ability to bring tasks through to completion with minimal supervision.
