Principal  Consultant– Professional Services, Indirect Tax

We are seeking a self-motivated individual with indirect tax experience to join our Professional Services team as a Principal Consultant, focusing on implementations and project management of Thomson Reuters ONESOURCE Indirect Tax Determination technology solutions. Principal consultant will manage large, complex projects pertaining to the development and implementation of ONESOURCE Indirect Tax products. They will mentor implementation consultants and collaborate with senior management in ONESOURCE Engineering, Product Management, Customer Support, and Sales. They will drive process improvement and operational scaling.

About the role

Client service through regular, direct contact with clients, by email, telephone and face-to-face, throughout the entire project life cycle.

Performs technical or functional roles on medium to large international projects, led by a Manager, ONESOURCE Partner, or Customer.   

Manages large size or large complexity (e.g. international) projects pertaining to the development and implementation of ONESOURCE products.

Manage and execute implementation plans including managing project scope,
directing staff resources (both internal and external), evaluating results, creating documentation of newly created processes and managing overall engagement. 

Can scope out a project based on business requirements and achievable benefits

Recommends optimal system configuration and business processes based on industry best practices.

Able to effectively facilitate meetings with project sponsors (Customer and Partner)

Identifies and develops upsell opportunities within assigned customer projects

Mentors implementation specialists, implementation consultants, and sr. implementation consultants.

Strong commitment to customer excellence, must have minimal to no customer escalations for services issues.

Can lead technology decisions and facilitate and articulate alternatives and direction to Customer’s Senior IT and Business Management.

About you

Work with partners on professional services engagements to configure and implement ONESOURCE Indirect Tax Determination, including integration with SAP, cross-training onto ONESOURCE Indirect Tax Compliance;

Engage with other teams within Thomson Reuters as appropriate to deliver end-to-end indirect tax solutions, in particular assisting sales in business development.

Liaise with colleagues to assist with pre-sales activities e.g. assisting with software demonstrations or scoping/assessing new opportunities.

Work with colleagues in a matrix organisation, developing key internal relationships with peers across the organisation.

Essential Skills and Experience:

Must have SAP background, with experience in one or more of the following areas: ABAP, FICO, SD or MM, and be skilled in troubleshooting and resolving SAP system issues

Project management skills and experience dealing with senior project leadership

An understanding of end-to-end financial processes (i.e. OTC or PTP) and systems

Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills and experience of working with clients and project teams

Experience with process analysis, design, mapping and re-engineering

Experience with process/software gap analysis and resolution

Experience creating and executing test cases and test scripts

Excellent organisational and analytical skills, with a methodical approach to work, problem solving and troubleshooting

Must be creative, innovative, and flexible, with the ability to work in a matrix environment

Technical and Functional Expertise (must meet at least 1 category requirement)

Functionally proficient with at least 3 ONESOURCE product:  Determination, Reporting, S&U Compliance, VAT Compliance, Property Tax, TCM, OR

Technically and/or functionally proficient with at least 3 calling system and its associated ONESOURCE connector:  Oracle, SAP, Microsoft, NetSuite, Workday, and others, OR

Expert in designing and building custom integrations to ONESOURCE products using Java, .NET or other programming languages.

Specialized Industry knowledge required:

Deep experience as a PM or Analyst in enterprise software products/services/applications (e.g. Oracle, Microsoft, SAP, NS, WDAY, etc.) OR

Deep technical experience with IT Platforms such as Microsoft SQL, Oracle DB/Weblogic, IBM DB/Websphere, Redhat, Tomcat OR

Deep experience in Indirect or Property Tax Law, Research or Consulting

Must possess strong cross team/group/org collaboration skills; ability to foresee and to analyse project risks, develop risk management plan and mitigate subsequent issues 

Must have high-powered analytical skills and the ability to understand concepts and situations that pass by many others  

Must have excellent communication skills, strong project management skills, and demonstrated success in adult learning and training principles/skills

Must have the ability to achieve objectives by successfully interacting and collaborating with:

Management level team members in ONESOURCE Engineering, Product Management, Customer Support, and Sales.

Management level resources at ONESOURCE Partners (KPMG, Deloitte, Accenture, Ryan, etc.)

Proficiency in Microsoft Office

Desired Skills and Experience: 

Experience working with clients on similar consulting engagements

Experience with integrating third party enterprise tax products (e.g. ONESOURCE Indirect Tax Determination, ONESOURCE Indirect Tax Compliance, Sabrix, Taxware and/or Vertex)

Experience of scoping and managing technology implementations including work/fee estimates, solution design, deliverables

Previous experience of implementing ONESOURCE Indirect Tax Compliance or Determination would be a real advantage

A working knowledge of Indirect Tax legislation, reporting requirements and processes

Training and coaching to more junior team members on SAP concepts and knowledge
