**Job Overview:**
The Principal Civil/Structural Designer directly impacts the effectiveness of their team and related team. They exchange ideas and information relating to Civil/Structural Design effectively. They may work autonomously within established Civil/Structural Design procedures and practices. They act as a lead, coordinating the work of others. The Principal Civil/Structural Designer proposes improvements to processes and methods within the Civil/Structural Design discipline.
**Key Tasks and Responsibilities:**
+ Handle and manage a single group of Structural Lofting Designers in a project.
+ Coordinate and assign activities to the Structural Lofting team members.
+ Attend project meetings as required.
+ Develop structural modeling using TEKLA, multi-user mode, or single user only if requested, modeling from design drawings. Use of AutoCAD 2D/3D and MicroSAS software.
+ Perform and issue the IFC (Issued for Fabrication) Structural Shop Drawings, through the appropriate Document control systems or channels, Keeping records of it.
+ Coordinate and review structural engineering in accordance with General Notes, welding requirements, fabrication project specification, material specifications, and supplier information to ensure that the executed work meets the Project and Bid requirements and timelines.
+ Keep work and man hours into the budget assigned.
+ Ensure that deliverables such as Approved for Construction are within procedures.
+ Control and approve all documentation developed by the structural lofting discipline issued on the project.
+ Provide Progress reports and KPIs, as required
+ Coordination of Structural Lofting activities, supervision of associate structural designer and structural designer, and senior structural designer.
+ Coordinate and review structural engineering in accordance with General Notes, welding requirements, fabrication project specification, material specifications, and supplier information to ensure that the executed work meets the Project and Bid requirements and timelines.
+ Design engineering review for constructability analysis.
+ Provide technical support to Procurement, Production, Construction, Engineering, and Fabrication areas.
+ Interact with other departments such as planning, construction, fabrication, project management, and contracts, etc. for clarification of scopes and responsibilities, etc.
+ Control supervision and closure of HOLDS, technical queries, workshop and/or design REDLINES, etc.
+ Keep being informed regarding the results of (The key Performance Indicator) measurement and take the required corrective actions.
+ Coordinate with fabrication and marine representatives to identify construction sequence and preferred design details.
+ Elaboration, control, and follow-up of project activity checklists.
+ Reading lessons learned according to the activity to be developed.
+ Participate in design reviews and audits.
+ Promote the reading of the procedures and the search in UNIFI by the elements of the project teams.
+ Ability to detect when change orders are required and generation of rework timesheets is triggered.
+ Work with subcontractors to exchange information for shop engineering generation. Generate information packages such as design drawings, formats, lists, mark numbers, etc. Required for a subcontractor.
+ Preparation of 30 and 90-day personnel evaluations, and contract termination evaluations.
+ Identify corrective actions according to progress, with support from project management and the ES manager, if necessary.
+ Interaction with planning teams to keep work schedules updated according to changes due to design delays (MDR/client).
+ Attend meetings with shop engineering subcontractors.
+ Elaboration of shop drawing engineering scopes for subcontracted works.
+ Control of information received from subcontractors and men hours reviewed in invoices.
+ Become thoroughly familiar with the contract Scope of Work, specifications, schedule, and all interdisciplinary requirements; including identifying concerns as early as possible and taking appropriate initiatives to address issues.
+ Identify scope changes and develop change notifications in the change management system, including the provision of supporting documentation and estimates as required. Provide similar support for change orders.
+ Participate in design reviews and audits.
+ Promote the reading of Lessons Learned from MDR.
+ Preparation of a control file in which all project drawings, CSE, marine, etc. will be included. And a summary of total progress, by area, shall be indicated. These lists will be used to support contract extensions required for personnel on projects.
+ Act as point of contact in communication and meetings with the project team, client, supplier, and/or subcontractor counterparts, as well as relevant agencies such as certifying authorities, auditors, third parties, etc.
+ Perform safety walkthroughs required by the projects.
+ Being familiar with the company's internal procedures and processes.
+ Control and calculation of rework Man Hour by the project.
+ Design engineering review for constructability analysis.
+ Supervised of preparation of time sheets for rework activities.
+ Any other activities may be assigned by the immediate supervisor or Engineering Services Manager.
+ Participate in the elaboration and development of L2, L3, and L4 Structural Lofting procedures of Global procedures used in MDR.
+ Participate in the updating process of the Job Descriptions of Structural Lofting discipline in the Fabrication Support Engineering Department.
+ Provide mentoring for any of the elements on the Structural Lofting team.
+ Identify opportunity areas for training requests, either external or from those the company has available, analyzing the individual skill of specialists.
+ Ability to analyze the processes used by the department and suggest opportunities for improvement.
Reports to: Construction Support Manager, Senior Principal Structural Desginer
Liases with: All departmental and inter disciplinary staff in Structural discipline, PMT, Client, Vendors & Fabrication groups.
Supervises: Senior Structural Designer (Dr/Des)
**Essential Qualifications and Education:**
+ Bachelor’s degree or technical career in Mechanical, Civil Engineer, or related field
+ 8 to 12 years of experience in Structural modeling for structural shop drawing purposes used in onshore and offshore Construction. Specialty in complex jackets and Modules.
+ Interpretation of drawings for onshore and offshore installations.
+ Knowledge of national and international codes and standards applied to onshore and offshore structures.
+ Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, Navis Works
+ Advanced knowledge of the English language.
+ Advanced MicroSAS, Project, and POWER BI (as a plus)
+ Excel advanced level
+ Advanced knowledge of AUTOCAD 3D and 2D, TEKLA structures.
