Principal / Associate Transport Modeller - Vissim
Stantec
Stantec has a reputable and well-established Transport Modelling team spread across the UK and we are currently seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Principal or Associate Transport Modeller to join us.
Our team is fortunate to work with excellent clients on some of the UK’s most exciting transport projects. Our client-focused and results-driven approach has enhanced our reputation as one of the leading transport planning consultancies in the UK. The team has grown significantly in recent years, and we are now looking to further strengthen and grow our offering.
We are therefore looking to recruit an experienced Principal or Associate Transport Modeller with strong team leadership and project delivery skills, proficient in traffic microsimulation using VISSIM and preferably with capabilities and/or ambition for project management, proposal preparation, commercial bids and project management.
The successful candidate will play a key role in the technical delivery of transport modelling projects for a diverse client base, with support from junior team members. They will be responsible for developing, calibrating, validating, and applying microsimulation models using VISSIM to support the appraisal, development, and implementation of various transport schemes and strategies. Communicating modelling results clearly through reports and presentations will be essential, along with staying informed on the latest transport policy, guidance, and best practices.
In addition to technical responsibilities, the candidate will provide oversight and mentorship to junior modellers, ensuring high-quality and consistent outputs. They will also undertake project management duties such as preparing fee proposals and tenders, coordinating teams, managing budgets, and overseeing invoicing. The role offers opportunities to contribute to strategic planning and business development, with clear potential for career progression and personal growth through engagement with influential clients and high-impact projects.
**ABOUT YOU**
The ideal candidate will hold a degree or higher-level qualification in a relevant discipline such as Transport Planning, Mathematics, Statistics, or Economics. They will be highly numerate with strong analytical skills and proven experience in report writing and clear communication, both internally and with external clients and stakeholders. A sound understanding of transport modelling, particularly with VISSIM, is essential, and familiarity with other specialist software packages such as Paramics, SATURN, VISUM, or Aimsun would be advantageous.
They should have a track record of successfully managing and delivering transport modelling projects across public and private sector clients, and demonstrate the ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team. Membership or progression towards membership of a relevant professional body, such as CIHT or CILT, is desirable. Additional strengths would include experience with VISWALK, VAP programming, Power BI, Python, and a good understanding of VMAP and LMAP processes, especially in the context of Transport for London (TfL) projects.
