Principal Associate – Safety – HSE – IAPI

We’re looking for people who are determined to make life better for people around the world. **Position Brand Description:** The Principal Associate – Safety – HSE – IAPI aids the API business in the development, implementation and maintenance of industrial safety programs and processes. The vision is an injury-free workplace that is in compliance with federal (Occupational Safety and Health Administration), state (Indiana Occupational Safety and Health Administration) and local regulations, as well as Global HSE standards. The position supports API manufacturing, lab, warehousing and administrative operations. **Key Objectives/Deliverables:** + Identify opportunities to enhance safety systems performance, individual and group behaviors and culture, via strong floor-presence and advocacy + Support and improve the local HSE management system, including participation and leadership in select governance, project, operations and committee meetings. + Own and drive continuous improvement of the emergency management program. + Provide technical expertise for industrial safety activities, that may include: material handling, hoists/cranes/rigging/, machine guarding, etc. + Serve as a technical expert for operations, including capital projects and facility/ equipment design. + Coordinate select compliance activities including event analysis, investigation support and self-assessments. + Conduct risk assessments to recognize, evaluate and aid in the control of personnel exposure to potential hazards encountered in the workplace. + Develop and implement industrial safety programs/procedures and training. + Lead cross-functional teams in the implementation, integration, and sustainment of safety programs. + Interface when needed with site and global health and safety service groups. + Coordinate and participate in corporate and regulatory compliance audits and inspections; interact with regulators and auditors during assessments; lead efforts to address gaps from these audits/inspections. + Compile, track and trend key safety performance metrics. + Support the site event management process by assessing health and safety events, participating in the investigation process and completing all assigned event actions. + Support the site change management process by evaluating and identifying impact of change requests and completing all assigned change actions. + Serve as a consultant to customers on safety issues and provide hands-on service to meet customer needs. **Basic Requirements:** + Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, engineering, or related discipline – or equivalent experience. + 5+ years of health and safety experience + HSE regulatory knowledge in OSHA requirements and practical application of management systems **Additional Preferences:** + Manufacturing experience + Obtained or pursuing professional certifications + Demonstrated ability to evaluate health and safety risks and determine creative solutions to support business needs + Successful application of root cause analysis and systematic problem solving + Strong organizational and communication skills + Proficient computer application skills + Demonstrated abilities to work well with people and achieve results with others **Other Information:** + The normal schedule for this position is Monday-Friday, 8 hours/day. However, emergency situations may require additional support beyond this normal schedule. Little to no travel is required with this position. + Tasks require entering manufacturing and laboratory areas which require wearing appropriate PPE. + Must carry a cell phone as position supports 24 hours/day manufacturing. The anticipated wage for this position is $63,000 - $162,800 Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance).
