Principal Architect - Information Technology

Job overview and responsibilities

The Principal Architect will lead the design, strategy, and evolution of enterprise applications and API integrations that power critical business capabilities. This role is responsible for defining scalable, resilient, and performant API solutions, creating roadmaps, and establishing best practices to deliver measurable value across the organization. Collaborating with architects at the enterprise level, the Principal Architect will modernize and optimize API design, ensuring alignment with long-term business goals while enabling innovation, agility, and industry-leading performance.

Define and Maintain API Product Strategy:

· Lead the definition and evolution of the API product strategy, including establishing API frameworks that align business and technology needs. Define and manage product roadmaps, ensuring APIs enable business capabilities and drive measurable value. Collaborate with business and technology leaders to refine APIs and integrations that support enterprise initiatives while maintaining KPIs, usability, and scalability.

Architectural Design and Alignment

· Develop technical standards, reference architectures, and design patterns that guide the design of scalable, resilient, and performant APIs and integrations. Collaborate across domains to ensure architectural alignment with enterprise goals, addressing operational requirements such as security, reliability, extensibility, and manageability

Continuous Improvement and Innovation

· Research emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices for API development and integration. Conduct Proof of Concepts to assess new solutions and drive adoption of modern design patterns across the organization. Define strategies to modernize API product management and foster innovation in how API capabilities are delivered.

Initiative Delivery and Strategic Execution

· Manage business case development, scope definition, and delivery roadmaps for strategic initiatives related to API products. Oversee the analysis and design phases of key initiatives, ensuring alignment with product priorities and long-term organizational strategy.

CI/CD and Observability

· Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines and observability tools (e.g., Dynatrace, DataDog, Splunk) to ensure efficient API delivery and reliability. Monitor and optimize API performance to support ongoing enhancements and business agility.

What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):

· Bachelors degree

· Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or related field is preferred

· 7 years of technical experience

· Knowledge in enterprise architecture, with a background in managing complex enterprise applications and infrastructure

· Experience working with APIs, managing all aspects of API products, including user feedback, requirements, and issues

· Ability to prioritize confidently with high pressure and limited resources

· Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

· Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification

· Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

What will help you propel from the pack (Preferred Qualifications):

· Experience working in a technology company on a monetized API product that is consumed by external customers

· Experience with Kong Gateway and Kong Mesh

· DevOps and CI/CD: Strong knowledge of DevOps practices, including CI/CD, automation, and observability tools (Dynatrace)

· PCI Compliance: Proven experience in implementing and maintaining PCI compliance for enterprise applications

· Security and Vulnerability Management: Solid understanding of security best practices, including vulnerability management and mitigation

· Data Management: Proficient in data architecture, governance, and security, with experience in both relational and non-relational databases
