Job Description

The role of Power System Engineer is an exceptional opportunity to make a real impact at one of the world’s leading energy technology companies, providing diverse electric systems, including grid connected and islanded power and propulsion systems on large scale global projects.  You will develop your career whilst developing into an important member of our class-leading team of Power System engineering specialists.

The Power Systems Engineering team helps solve exciting problems using advanced analytical tools and develops safe, efficient and operational performance-led solutions. The Power Systems Engineer could be involved throughout the tendering phase, detail design & development, procurement, manufacturing, test and commissioning stages of projects, and possibly delivering in-service design and obsolescence support. You will use and develop your key skills, knowledge and experience to support and influence the development and delivery of class leading Power System solutions.

Core Responsibilities

Generate Single Line Diagrams for AC or DC system Architectures.

Support or perform Power System studies and analysis using simulation software, such as MATLAB, or DigSilent, or eTAP, or PSCAD, or PSSE.

Studies include, but not limited to, Short Circuit, Load Flow, Harmonic, Transient, Insulation co-ordination analysis, Arc & protection co-ordination.

Generate main and balance of plant equipment specifications, functional and test documents, for LV or HV Switchboards, Generators, Cables, Converters, Transformers, Motors, auxiliaries and more.

Provide technical support, support commissioning and through life in-service support.

Capture requirements to ensure validation and verification.

Ability to produce clear and concise engineering documentation.

Ensuring Power System designs comply with requirements, relevant health & safety, international standards, and class society rules where applicable.

We are looking for a professional engineer who:

Has applicable, transferrable equipment or systems level knowledge & experience, with ideally industrial, marine or naval defence domain experience.

Candidates with demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following areas—Power System modelling, generator excitation systems, Power Electronics, Machines and Drives (PEMD) are encouraged to apply.

Can work initiatively on challenges, problem solving, ambitious, highly motivated and driven to succeed with a lean mindset.

Has working knowledge of marine classification society, IEC, MIL or DEF standards.

Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team.

Knowledge of Engineering lifecycle processes is a plus.

Willing to travel within UK and overseas for short-term working.

Essential Qualifications

Minimum of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant subject but relevant experience will also be considered.

Working towards or hold CEng qualification

It will be necessary to carry out background checks and suitability assessments (UK BPSS clearance OR UK SC clearance) as part of the hiring process. Read more on national security vetting levels here.
