Power System & Market Modeling Engineer
AirSwift
Role: Power System & Market Modeling Engineer
Location: Saclay, France
Contract Duration: 12 months (renewable)
Start Date: Oct, 2025
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday
A leading energy company has initiated an ambitious research and technology initiative focused on weather and electricity market modelling to support the transition toward future energy systems and low-carbon solutions. With the growing integration of renewable energy into the grid and the increasing electrification of sectors such as industry, transportation, and heating/cooling, electricity infrastructure — especially transmission systems — is under significant pressure. Leveraging advanced technologies, the goal of this program is to develop robust short- and long-term models to inform deployment strategies, investment planning, and operational decision-making. Achieving these objectives requires high-performance tools capable of accurately forecasting and simulating power systems and electricity market dynamics.
Responsibilities:
You will contribute to the technical and economic modelling of energy systems to support long-term electricity price forecasting, with a focus on both consumption and production. Key challenges include: Modelling electricity demand based on various assumptions, including weather sensitivity, sectoral growth, and consumer behaviour. Simulating power generation by technology type, incorporating factors such as renewable energy penetration and hydro system inflows. Adapting energy system models to reflect changes in regulations and market structures. Supporting the development of a strategic roadmap for electricity market evolution. Conducting industrial and academic research into electricity market modelling and optimisation, identifying key challenges posed by the large-scale expansion of renewables. Engaging with stakeholders across programmes, business units, and the research community. Education & Qualifications Master's degree (M2) or PhD in energy systems or power engineering. Over 5 years of professional experience, with a strong background in fundamental electricity price modelling. Solid understanding of various electricity market designs in Europe and/or North America. Proficient in Python and familiar with modelling methodologies. Hands-on experience with software tools for renewable energy system modelling (e.g., Plexos, Antarès, PowerFactory). Fluent in both English and French. About Airswift
