Postdoctoral Fellow - Fundamental Mechanisms Cancer Biology
MD Anderson Cancer Center
Michael Kim, M.D.'s laboratory in the Department of Surgical Oncology at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, invites applications for a postdoctoral position focused on uncovering fundamental mechanisms of cancer biology with high translational potential. Our research focuses on defining the transcriptional and genetic programs that sustain pancreatic cancer cell survival, promote metastasis, and confer therapeutic resistance. Using integrative approaches-including murine models, human tumor datasets, and in vitro systems-we aim to translate mechanistic insights into novel therapeutic strategies.
This position offers comprehensive training in cancer genetics, signal transduction, transcriptomics, functional genomics, and mechanism-based approaches to cancer therapeutic development. The successful candidate will be able to lead projects incorporating cutting-edge tools in both experimental and computational biology. We are seeking a highly motivated and intellectually curious individual with a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent degree in cancer biology, molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry, genetics, or a related discipline. Ideal candidates will have:
*LEARNING OBJECTIVES*
• Develop broad knowledge of pancreatic cancer biology and related mechanisms of metastasis.
• Understand the current knowledge gaps and challenges in the field
• Hone research skills and gain independence in research design and execution, including designing sound research protocols, safely performing techniques necessary to conduct and analyze the data, and to communicate their research.
• Develop leadership and project management skills
• Learn to navigate the grant application and scientific publishing processes
• Further hone communication skills, including writing, speaking, and listening, to enable effective communication with colleagues, collaborators, students, the lay public, and the media
• Develop leadership and mentorship skills
*ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS*
Strong background in cancer biology, molecular & cell biology, biochemistry, or genetics.
- Prior experience with molecular techniques and in vivo models, including nude and genetically engineered mice.
- Interest in translational research and therapeutic development.
- Proficiency in data analysis and/or computational biology is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with statistical programming languages (e.g., R, Python) is a plus.
- Good publication record.
- Excellent communication skills are required.
