Post Doctoral Scientist in Immunology

At Lilly, we unite caring with discovery to make life better for people around the world. We are a global healthcare leader headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana. Our employees around the world work to discover and bring life-changing medicines to those who need them, improve the understanding and management of disease, and give back to our communities through philanthropy and volunteerism. We give our best effort to our work, and we put people first. We’re looking for people who are determined to make life better for people around the world.

We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to join our immunology team in Indianapolis.  The successful candidate will possess a strong background in population and/or human genetics. They will be responsible for the analysis of large scale internal and external sequencing datasets to decipher the shared genetic architecture across autoimmune traits. As part of our translational bioinformatics group, the candidate will perform genetic analysis to identify novel targets, pathways and biomarkers associated with autoimmune diseases. The proposed project will allow the candidate to sharpen critical thinking, understand the impact of their work within a larger organization and prepare for scientific leadership roles. A successful candidate will have the desire to work with an interdisciplinary team of scientists in a highly collaborative environment that strives to unlock novel therapeutic approaches. This is an exciting opportunity to advance therapeutic target and biomarker discovery to improve patients’ lives.

Job Responsibilities:

Analyze large-scale sequencing datasets from population cohorts to identify shared genetic variation (pleiotropy) impacting multiple autoimmune disease traits

Apply statistical and computational approaches to leverage large ‘omic’ datasets for molecular QTL analysis linking genetic risk variants to systemic inflammation and autoimmune diseases

Contribute to internal workflows and bioinformatic pipelines for genetic analysis, target, pathway, and biomarker discovery

Collaborate with translational scientists, statisticians, bioinformaticians and clinicians to interpret findings and advance novel therapeutic approaches

Communicate experimental results and project progress at team and department meetings

Experience working in a computational or cloud environment used for the analysis of large-scale sequencing datasets (e.g Plink, AWS, R, Phyton, Perl, shell, Unix, DNAnexus) will be preferred

Experience working with large-scale biobank (UK biobank, 1000 Genomes, All of Us) or other sequencing datasets is a plus

Prior experience in immunology or autoimmune disease research is not required but a plus

Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently
