**Position Description**
**Post-Doctoral Clinical Research Fellow**
**Employment Type:** Temporary Fixed-Term (1.0 FTE), 1 year contract with potential for renewal
**Hours of Work:** 35 hours per week
**Department/ Division:** Division of Endocrinology
The Division of Endocrinology is in search of a Post-Doctoral Clinical Research Fellow in Endocrinology, in particular Diabetes, to join a multidisciplinary clinical research program dedicated to improving the outcomes of children with type 1 diabetes. This position is a full-time clinical research fellowship under the supervision of the Principal Investigator Dr. Farid Mahmud [Home (sickkids.ca)]. This is a one-year position with the option of renewal for the second-year conditional on successful completion of the first-year requirements. Start date is negotiable, but ideally by Fall/Winter 2024/25 at the latest.
The Post Doctoral Clinical Research Fellowship is embedded within a clinical research program that aims to improve the care and outcomes of children with type I diabetes and their families through:
+ Understanding the impact of diabetes on heart and kidney health
+ Evaluating treatments (i.e., SGLT2i) beyond insulin, including adjunctive therapies, new technologies and dietary interventions
+ Investigating the impact of social determinants of health including social, environmental and socioeconomic factors that impact diabetes outside the clinic
+ Understanding how differences in genes, biology, environment, psychology and social factors contribute to the heterogeneity of diabetes to develop precise or personalized methods for the management and treatment of diabetes (i.e., study of Precision Medicine in diabetes)
**Here's What You'll Get To Do**
+ Coordination and delivery of one or more agreed upon academic clinical research project(s) and its associated activities, taking direction from the Principal Investigator.
+ Be involved in all aspects of the clinical research process, from identifying eligible patients to recruitment and consent of patients to carrying out study activities and visits to human biological sample handling and data collection and entry (i.e., REDCAP database)
+ Be involved in all aspects of the academic research process, from grant writing to data analysis and manuscript writing.
+ Develop research questions, analyze detailed and complex qualitative and/or quantitative data from a variety of sources, and contribute original ideas for new research projects
+ Contribute to or write research manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals, book chapters and reviews
+ Formal (i.e., internal and external international conferences and meetings) and informal (i.e., research team meetings) presentation of research project(s)
+ Work in a multi-disciplinary environment with a diverse range of training opportunities.
**Here's What You'll Need**
+ A PhD, with all degree requirements completed before the research fellowship start date.
+ Ideal candidate completed clinical research training in endocrinology with focus in diabetes.
+ Ideal candidate will also have had some exposure to working in a laboratory handling human biological specimens.
+ Clinical research associate certification(s) (e.g., SOCRA accreditation) is/are an asset
+ Possesses current knowledge of regulations and policies governing clinical research (e.g. Tri-council Policy Statement, ICH Guidelines, Good Clinical Practices, and Health Canada and FDA regulations)
+ Communicate well in English, in writing and in oral and visual presentations
+ Ability to work with meticulous attention to detail
+ Function independently, yet collaboratively within a team
+ Excellent problem-solving, organizational and time management skills
+ The ability to manage own academic research and associated activities
+ Evidence of excellent interpersonal skills and leadership, with the ability to communicate research ideas and results in a clear and logical way and the ability to confidently and effectively interact with colleagues and the broader research community
+ Ability to contribute ideas for new research projects leading to grant submissions
+ Academic potential where you have proven skills in handling data (i.e., analysis, familiar with statistical software packages), graphics and writing.
+ Demonstrating competence and success in previous thesis research work e.g. with publications (or papers accepted) in peer reviewed journals, and presentations at international meetings.
+ Demonstrated commitment to advancing and aiding in the pursuit of equity, diversity and inclusion objectives
