The AI4CE Lab at NYU Tandon School of Engineering is seeking to hire a Post Doctoral Associate to work on robotics and embodied AI.

New York University’s AI4CE lab ( https://ai4ce.github.io ) is a multidisciplinary research group led by Dr. Chen Feng (PI). The lab is dedicated to the advancement of fundamental automation and intelligence technologies such as robot perception and machine learning, with applications in various engineering domains that include construction, manufacturing, transportation, and smart cities. The lab’s mission is to develop novel algorithms and systems for intelligent agents to accurately understand and efficiently interact with materials and humans in dynamic and unstructured environments.
The lab is affiliated with multiple NYU departments and centers that include the Center for Robotics and Embodied Intelligence (CREO), Connected Communities for Smart Mobility towards Accessible and Resilient Transportation for Equitably Reducing Congestion (C2SMARTER), Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences (CIMS), Department of Civil and Urban Engineering (CUE), Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE), and Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE). The lab also has collaborations with various industry partners.
Expectations
Generally, all postdoc researchers in the AI4CE lab are expected to
+ conduct groundbreaking research both independently and as part of multidisciplinary teams;
+ contribute to existing projects in the lab and initiate new projects and research collaborations as appropriate;
+ participate in the development of research proposals;
+ build collaborations across labs, groups, centers, and beyond;
+ publish in top venues in AI and Robotics;
+ contribute to the scholarly community of the lab through the organization of seminars, mentoring of students, and other services.
The postdoc will be funded to advance AI4CE’s core mission in AI and Robotics. The postdoc will primarily work on a project related to robotics and embodied AI in manufacturing, collaborating with the lab’s researchers and the industry partner, and publishing research outcomes in top-tier venues like RSS/CVPR/ICRA.
Salary range
This postdoc position is full-time for one year, with the potential of extension based on satisfactory performance and availability of funding. In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary for this position is $65,000 minimum, depending on the candidate’s experience and qualification.
Candidates should have a PhD in Robotics, Engineering, Computer Science or a related field. We welcome applicants with recent PhDs and individuals seeking additional postdoctoral training. Candidates will be required to present eligibility to work in the United States. Ideal candidates should meet the following criteria:
+ Strong publication record in areas that overlap with the AI4CE lab’s recent and/or past publications, especially in top-tier AI/robotics conferences like CVPR/ICRA/RSS/NeurIPS/etc., or top automation journals like IEEE TRO, RA-L, Automation in Construction, etc.
+ Evidence and/or interest in conducting multi-disciplinary research
+ Experience and/or interest in teaching and mentoring
+ Interest in proposal writing with the intent to establish a record of externally funded research
