The Portfolio Analytics group within Morgan Stanley Fund Services focuses on helping clients analyze, understand and report Investment risk and performance of client’s portfolios, provide portfolio transparency reporting, derivatives valuation and other portfolio analytics needs of Morgan Stanley’s global hedge fund clientele. We leverage the group’s proprietary web-based applications and work closely with hedge fund clients and other teams within the division.
The Portfolio Analytics team is currently seeking a candidate based in New York who is interested in applying skills in the business area concerning performance and risk attribution for hedge fund portfolios using in-house analytical tools. The candidate is expected to apply business knowledge, process, and people management skills to effectively manage client deliverables. The role will include significant collaboration with teams across the globe, particularly in New York, Hong Kong, and London.
Responsibilities
Support our hedge fund clientele in their use of our proprietary web-based performance and risk applications
Consult with clients on internal/external reporting, including sharing information on industry reporting trends
Create bespoke solutions for client-specific analytical needs, using a combination of R, SQL, Excel, and other such tools as necessary
Build and maintain the technology infrastructure to automate and scale such bespoke solutions where necessary
Collaborate with technology development teams to resolve issues or develop new features within the team’s proprietary web tools
Qualifications
Master’s degree with a quantitative/economics/financial engineering background strongly preferred
7-10+ years of experience in a portfolio analytics role within asset management, hedge funds or allocator industry
Client facing experience is required
Strong attention to detail, exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills
Self-starter, driven and results-oriented individual with an aptitude for relationship management
Ability to analyze the risk and performance of investments at both a security and portfolio level, and to understand the results both quantitatively and qualitatively. Common financial instruments include equity swaps, future, and options, bonds, and foreign currency forwards
Experience in team management and fostering an environment of collaboration conducive to innovative ideas and solutions to problems.
Knowledge of Microsoft Excel; Bloomberg; VBA; object-oriented programming or statistical scripting language including R, Matlab, or Python; hands-on experience in sifting through and analyzing large data sets programmatically
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong communicator with good interpersonal skills
Demonstrated ability to write effectively and create presentation decks suitable for senior management
Results oriented, deadline driven resource person who thrives in fast paced, dynamic environment

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $140,000 and $200,000 per year at the commencement of employment.
