The Department of Probation is recruiting a Policy & Research Associate to work in close coordination with the Chief of Staff to develop the agency’s communications as it relates to press and public information. The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
-Perform quantitative and qualitative research and analysis to assist policy-makers in policy formulation, implementation and evaluation. Utilize tools such as tables, charts, and spreadsheets to support research findings.
-Monitor, track, assess, and evaluate methods and recommend procedures/policies. Make recommendations on policies and programs based on research findings. Liaise with other city agencies to foster collaborative best-practices sharing and collaboration.
-Identify inconsistencies or outdated guidance within existing policies and propose clear, actionable revisions. Assist senior staff and leadership in dissemination of updated policy guidelines and information to applicable parties.
-Prepare clearly written, organized reports and internal memoranda, updates, presentations, and talking points for leadership.
-Monitor and respond to requests for policy materials and serve as a point of contact and subject matter expert for information on departmental procedures.
-Routinely audit and inspect policies to ensure accuracy, effectiveness, and compliance. Maintain appropriate documentation and ensure all deadlines are met.
-Contribute to policy modernization initiatives.
-Research and evaluate internal and external publications such as literary reviews, field studies, and other written documents relating to current industry policies and standards.
-Other special projects and duties as assigned.
CITY RESEARCH SCIENTIST - 21744
Qualifications
1. For Assignment Level I (only physical, biological and environmental sciences and public health) A master's degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological or environmental science or in public health.
To be appointed to Assignment Level II and above, candidates must have:
1. A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and one year of full-time experience in a responsible supervisory, administrative or research capacity in the appropriate field of specialization; or
2. A master's degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and three years of responsible full-time research experience in the appropriate field of specialization; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least a master's degree in an appropriate field of specialization and at least two years of experience described in "2" above. Two years as a City Research Scientist Level I can be substituted for the experience required in "1" and "2" above.

Probationary Period
Appointments to this position are subject to a minimum probationary period of one year.

Salary Min: $ 87,743.00
Salary Max: $110,120.00
