The Police Lieutenant position serves as the Assistant Chief of the Louisiana State Museum (LSM) Police Department which provides law enforcement services for LSM's New Orleans facilities as well as its other statewide ancillary properties. The Louisiana State Museum’s collections and educational programs stimulate awareness and appreciation of our state’s rich and diverse history and culture. Minimum Qualifications Four years of law enforcement experience. EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION: Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will substitute for one year of the required experience. The maximum substitution allowed is 60 semester hours which substitutes for two years of experience. NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must be at least 18 years of age. Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license. Possession of an active Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification may be required. An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted. Job Duties and Other Information Job Duties: The incumbent of this position is required to have a current LA P.O.S.T. certificate, adhere to all training requirement pursuant to LA RS. 40:2405 and shall fulfill nil requirements for annual basic firearms training. The LSM is a complex of national landmarks housing thousands of artifacts and work of art reflecting Louisiana's legacy of historic events and cultural diversity. The Museum operates eight properties in the French Quarter: the Cabildo, the Presbytere, 1850 House, the Old U.S. Mint, the State Collections Facility, Madame John's Legacy, Civil Rights, and the Lower Pontalba complex which consists of twelve commercial spaces and twenty-eight residential apartments. In addition, the LSM has additional properties in Patterson LA, Thibodaux, LA, and Baton Rouge, LA. + Serves as the division trainer for nil police staff relative to policies and procedures. Determines police shift schedules to ensure adequate coverage for daily operations as well as special events and submits schedules to the Police Captain for approval. Coordinates payroll for police staff. Conducts PBS evaluations for assigned police staff in accordance with Civil Service rules and agency policy. Counsels and disciplines subordinates, when necessary, for performance/behavioral issues. Approves annual leave requests for subordinates. Serves as the LSMPD LA P.O.S.T. Coordinator. Coordinator of all WAE activities and schedules. + Maintains building log of entry/exit of employees or guests into restricted areas of the LSM. Accounts for transfer of artifacts between LSM properties. Monitors and operates LSM alarm systems, and key control system. + Serves as an armed commissioned police officer in the enforcement of State, Federal, and local laws. Patrols interior and exterior of LSM properties. Directs visitor traffic as well as parking at LSM facilities. Supervises quarterly building inspections relative to the Office of Risk Management (ORM) safety program. + Intervenes in any emergency utilizing applicable laws, policies, and protocols in order to maintain order. Responds to calls for first aid. Maintain crowd control when necessary. Coordinate special event schedules to ensure adequate coverage. + Maintains knowledge of LSM programs and exhibits in each assigned OSM Museum facility and provides information to museum visitors as required. Use a computer-based Point of Sale ticketing system. Receive cash, checks, and other forms of payments for museum admission, as needed. Follow any required reconciliation procedures. Perform maintenance, custodial, and gallery inspections as needed. + Maintain good working relationships with all State, Federal, and local law enforcement agencies. Cooperates and assists with outside agencies as necessary. + Other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: The State Museums are open to the public at various times and days according to location. This position may be required to work overtime and/or travel.
