A Plating Engineer specializes in the application and optimization of electroplating processes on metal surfaces to enhance durability, corrosion resistance, electrical conductivity, and aesthetic appeal. The role is pivotal in driving departmental KPIs, overseeing daily operations, and implementing continuous improvement plans using deep technical knowledge and hands-on expertise

My day at EssilorLuxottica

Ø Ensure all plating production workstations consistently adhere to safety protocols, quality standards, productivity targets, and 5S housekeeping principles.

Ø Collaborate effectively with the plating laboratory and wastewater treatment teams to monitor process parameters, maintain control, and troubleshoot operational issues within the plating department

Ø Oversee and optimize critical performance indicators, including First Pass Yield (FPY), Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), operational efficiency, EXCO, consumable usage, and departmental KPIs in alignment with the Balanced Scorecard framework.

Ø Manage the handling and recovery of precious metal waste, coordinating cross-functionally with suppliers, environmental health and safety, finance, compliance, and engineering laboratories to develop and implement effective recovery and refinery processes.

Ø Ensure the safe operation and maintenance of plating equipment by scheduling and supervising routine maintenance activities to maximize uptime and operational reliability.

Ø Lead the onboarding and training of new employees, emphasizing correct operational techniques, safe equipment usage, and adherence to established procedures.

Ø Develop, revise, and maintain comprehensive training materials, including guides, roadbooks, evaluation checklists, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and work instructions, with particular focus on chemical handling risks associated with plating processes.

Ø Facilitate clear communication of corporate policies, announcements, and regulatory requirements to production personnel to ensure understanding and compliance.

Ø Enforce rigorous adherence to safety, environmental, and 5S standards, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.

 

*The responsibility in management system related to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.*

Must have

Ø Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Metallurgical Engineering, or a related field.

Ø Technical Knowledge & Experience Minimum 3–5 years of experience in electroplating, metal finishing, or chemical process engineering.

Ø Strong understanding of Electroplating techniques (e.g., Au, Pd, Ni, Cu plating)

Ø Surface preparation, bath chemistry, and post-treatment processes

Ø Process control and troubleshooting in plating lines

Ø Experience in wastewater treatment and precious metal recovery processes is a plus.

Ø Process & Tools Proficiency

Ø Familiarity with SAP (production & material tracking)

Ø Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word for reporting and analysis)

Ø Statistical process control (SPC) and basic Six Sigma tools

Ø Experience using lean manufacturing and 5S methodologies

Ø Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

Ø Good understanding of safety, environmental, and chemical handling regulations

Ø Capability to manage and train teams effectively (people management skills)

Ø Ability to plan and execute improvement projects (e.g., OEE, FPY, cost reduction)

Ø Competency in writing and revising SOPs, work instructions, and risk assessments

Ø Effective interpersonal and cross-functional communication skills

Ø Ability to communicate and report clearly with internal teams, suppliers, and regulatory bodies

Ø Proficiency in English (spoken and written) is essential for multinational companies

Ø Certification in Lean Six Sigma (Green Belt or higher is plus)

Ø Familiarity with ISO standards (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO 14001)

Ø Knowledge of precious metal economics and vendor engagement for plating chemicals

Ø Hands-on experience with automated plating systems
