Platform Engineer - DHR

The Platform Engineer is responsible for building and maintaining robust infrastructure and CI/CD platforms, working closely with Engineering and the TechOps teams. Your primary objective will be to empower engineering teams by ensuring smooth, rapid delivery. You will also focus on discovering and eliminating sources of friction, automating workflows, and enhancing the overall development and production environments.
This position reports to the Global Head of Infrastructure and Platforms and is part of the Technical Operations team located in Cambridge, UK and will be Hybrid. At Abcam, our vision is to be the most influential life sciences company for researchers worldwide.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
Optimize and maintain production and development infrastructure, ensuring stability, uptime, and efficient CI/CD pipelines.
Collaborate with Engineering and TechOps teams to identify bottlenecks and implement improvements to automation, cloud infrastructure, and developer workflows.
Design and implement cloud infrastructure using tools such as Terraform, and promote automation best practices across teams.
Drive continuous improvements in the developer experience, security standards, and observability, using tools like Prometheus, Grafana, or New Relic.
The essential requirements of the job include:
Extensive experience with AWS cloud infrastructure, with proficiency in infrastructure automation using Terraform, Puppet, Chef, or Ansible.
Demonstrable experience in building and optimizing CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, TeamCity, or Gitlab, with a focus on continuous integration and delivery.
Strong scripting skills in Bash, Python, or PowerShell, with significant hands-on experience in deploying and managing Docker, Kubernetes, and EKS in production environments.
Proven track record of working with observability and monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, and New Relic for ensuring platform performance and reliability.
In-depth knowledge of security best practices for cloud infrastructure and applications, with experience applying these in large-scale environments.
Travel, Motor Vehicle Record & Physical/Environment Requirements:
Ability to travel
Must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
Experience with GitOps and Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Hands-on experience with GitOps practices and tools (e.g., ArgoCD, Flux) for managing infrastructure using declarative configurations and version control.
Proficiency in Serverless Architectures: Experience in designing and deploying applications using serverless technologies (e.g., AWS Lambda, Azure Functions) to enhance scalability and reduce infrastructure management.
Experience in Multi-Cloud Environments: Familiarity with managing infrastructure across multiple cloud providers (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and optimizing workloads for cost, performance, and resilience.
