Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('Versant') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. The well-capitalized company will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025.
Job DescriptionThe Planning Producer is responsible for managing the editorial and logistical coordination of major coverage initiatives, long-lead projects, and daily newsgathering needs where warranted. Working closely with the Director of Planning and senior editorial leadership, this role ensures strong partnership between the planning, show, and field teams, as well as digital producers. The ideal candidate will have strong editorial judgment, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to drive coverage strategies across platforms.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead editorial planning for upcoming news events, special coverage, and enterprise reporting.Coordinate with bureaus, correspondents, and production teams to manage logistics and coverage needs.Maintain and update long-range planning calendars, tracking major events, political developments, and ongoing stories.Coordinate with platforms to plan coverage of MSNBC enterprise reporting from talentPitch and develop original story ideas, identifying opportunities for deeper coverage or exclusive angles.Oversee pre-production processes for special projects, including research, bookings, travel coordination, and field production planning.Liaise with technical, operations, and digital teams to ensure multi-platform distribution of planned content.Serve as a key contact along with newsgathering during breaking news to assess available resources and adjust plans as needed.Attend editorial meetings and represent the planning desk in coordination discussions.Provide mentorship to junior staff.Qualifications7+ years of experience in network or cable news in planning or newsgathering.Proven track record in planning complex newsgathering operations or large-scale event coverage.Strong editorial instincts and a deep understanding of current events and news cycles.Excellent communication and organizational skills; ability to multitask under pressure.Experience managing teams and cross-functional collaboration.Proficiency with newsroom systems (iNews, ENPS, etc.) and planning tools.Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends as news demands.Preferred:

Salary Range: $90,000 - $120,000
