Position Summary

The Continual Commercial Improvement (CCI) Engineer plays a critical role in analyzing and enhancing refinery performance by identifying optimization opportunities across the value chain. This role blends commercial and technical insight to evaluate past decisions, support planning and scheduling, and improve forward-looking strategies. The CCI Engineer collaborates across functions to run backcasts, validate assumptions, close margin gaps, and drive data-informed improvements that unlock long-term value.

Key ResponsibilitiesSupport the commercial optimization of refinery operations by integrating feedstock selection, intermediate and product placement, and supply chain economics with market analysis and margin insights.Apply a working knowledge of refinery operations, economics, and market dynamics to identify, quantify, and communicate strategies that close performance gaps and capture missed opportunities.Collaborate with local and regional value chain teams to align on economic drivers and ensure that planning decisions support enterprise-wide optimization.Verify refinery production plans using linear programming (LP) models; Understand differences in plan were due to margin shifts, demand changes, or operational constraints.  Communicate any changes needed to forecast tools or processes to capture value.Verify the buy-versus-make decisions by evaluating actual costs, quality, supply logistics, and market conditions in collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders.Build and refine backcasting models to evaluate historical performance, validate planning assumptions, and uncover margin leakage or optimization opportunities.Conduct structured analyses of historical refinery data to identify trends, performance patterns, and actionable insights. Ensure data accuracy and completeness by working closely with supporting teams.Assist in developing/verifying decision-making frameworks and communicate findings and recommendations to key stakeholders through clear and concise presentations.Contribute to project support activities with a focus on data integrity, issue identification, and solution development under guidance.Integrate into the local refinery planning team and learn the tools and processes for completing deliverables and scheduling, including APS.  Contribute to the validation of production plans with support from team members and lead any gap closures.

Education and Experience

Planning & Optimization Engineer:

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required.

Three (3) years relevant experience. Technical Services or Economics & Planning experience preferred

Senior Planning & Optimization Engineer:

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required.

Seven (7) years relevant experience. Technical Services or Economics & Planning experience preferred.
