Planning Forester

Join our team within the Southern Timberlands Business, operating in the Mississippi Louisiana Region. As a planning forester, you'll report directly to the region Planning Manager. This opportunity is a full-time, exempt role situated in Hattiesburg, MS.

Key Functions:

The primary responsibility of a Planning and Roads Forester is to develop a harvest plan that aligns with the needs of the Hattiesburg Wood Flow Organization while ensuring the plan complies with the MSLA Strategic Harvest Plan. You will spend at least 50 percent of your time in the field collaborating with harvest managers and managing contractors. You will be responsible for ensuring that harvest units are ready to log 1.25 years prior to harvest. Contractor management will include the development and supervision of road construction and maintenance projects. During active timber harvests, you will serve as a trusted advisor and support staff to the harvest managers.

You will be a role model for safety, holding yourself and others accountable to Weyerhaeuser’s safety policies. You will ensure that we maintain our SFI certification by complying with Environmental Policies and the Best Management Practices of Mississippi.

Bachelor's degree in forestry or a related field, or equivalent experience

Preferred: 5 years of experience managing loggers on active logging jobs

Preferred: 5 years of experience planning and supervising roadwork and forestry Best Management Practices (BMPs)

Commitment to adhering to established safety standards for employees and contractors.

Display strong teaming skills, with a willingness to collaborate in a diverse team environment.

Holding contractors accountable in a professional manner to get the desired results.

Possess basic negotiating and contract administration skills.

Adept at problem-solving and facing diversity on a daily basis

Ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks.

Organization and time management

Familiarity with Forest Inventory/GIS systems

Willingness to master and utilize Weyerhaeuser’s inventory system.

Proficiency in computer software, particularly Excel.

Understanding of harvest supervision, silvicultural goals, and basic forest economics.

Knowledge of mobile applications like Avenza Maps and Field Maps.

Showcase strong leadership and interpersonal skills.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Flexibility to take on additional projects and assignments as required.

What We Offer:

Compensation: This role is eligible for our annual merit-increase program, and we are targeting a salary range of $61,688-$102,556 based on your level of skills, qualifications and experience. You will also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program, which offers a cash bonus targeting 5%of base pay. Potential plan funding may range from zero to two times that target.

In addition, after being employed for six months, eligible employees begin to accrue vacation for future use. We also recognize eleven paid holidays per year, providing a total of 88 holiday hours and paid parental leave for all full-time employees.
