Position Summary
As an entry-level Planner, this position will support the planning and coordination of materials and production schedules to ensure efficient operations. This role involves assisting in inventory management, demand forecasting, and collaborating with various departments to facilitate smooth production processes. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, eager to learn, and capable of working in a fast-paced environment. This role does not have direct reports.
Essential Functions
• Material Identification: Identify raw material and component requirements for production based on engineering and production specifications. Ensure accuracy in the item master file and bill of materials.
• Status Reporting: Advise management on work-in-progress, material availability, and potential production issues. Recommend improvements to the planning process for assigned products.
• Supply Evaluation: Confirm material availability to meet demand. Prepare work orders or purchase requests for components to support the master production schedule and inventory needs. Coordinate material movements to ensure timely availability.
• Scheduling and Expedite: Schedule and expedite the movement of parts through move orders and stock transfers to meet customer shipping deadlines.
• Inventory Analysis: Analyze inventory usage, scrap, and waste; recommend actions to minimize loss, reduce inventory, and increase turnover to meet inventory objectives.
• Problem Resolution: Assist management in resolving issues related to over shipments, shortages, engineering changes, and order cancellations.
• Cross-Functional Coordination: Collaborate with Quality Assurance, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Engineering, Inventory Control, Shipping, and Contract Administration to ensure smooth material flow and consistent status updates.
• Configuration Control: Maintain configuration control on open orders and relevant data files according to division policies.
• Continuous Improvement: Apply continuous improvement techniques to enhance internal processes and reduce costs. Comply with policies outlined in the Government/Commercial Practices Manual (GPM/CPM).
• Professional Development: Stay updated on industry trends by attending workshops, reviewing publications, and participating in professional associations. Share knowledge with others and represent the company on specific projects.
• Mentorship and Team Contribution: Mentor new employees and contribute to team efforts by achieving related results. Participate in cross-functional or project team responsibilities, such as continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
• Bachelor degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
• Previous internship or coursework related to supply chain, inventory management, or production planning is a plus but not required.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel) and basic knowledge of ERP systems is advantageous.
• Interest in pursuing certifications such as APICS Certified in Planning and Inventory Management (CPIM) or similar is a plus.
• Experience in a manufacturing or logistics environment, even if through internships or projects.
